Default May 2023 retirements

I noticed on this week's chief pilot information line that we have 18 pilots retiring this month. Looking at the IPA seniority tool we are only due 22 for the whole remainder of the year. Not sure how this relates to any other month, it just caught my curiosity. I thought we were somewhere above 100 age 65 retirements next year and now that number is 61.

The schedule sodomizer is having unintended or perhaps intended consequences for the company depending on the day of the week… thinning the herd.

It’s really eye opening to me to see how tired and run down guys and gals look in SDF during the night sort. It’s no wonder people are punching out early as A. It ain’t healthy flying these **** schedules and B. It’s not getting better anytime soon,

I’m not surprised with the quality of the schedules. I’m trying to figure out how we’re flying less block hours but the schedules have gotten worse. Add in the payroll shenanigans and the decision to punch out early becomes that much easier.

Has anyone actually gone back and looked at the historical rate of early retirements and compared it to what we are seeing now? I’ve not but it “feels,” to be right in line with normal.

The plug on 1/1/22 moved up 58 numbers by 5/1/22.

The plug on 1/1/23 moved up 52 numbers by 5/1/23.

True but the plug on 1/1/22 has over 400 folks below on the seniority list now. The plug on 1/1/23 has 15?

Early retirements seems to be effectively smoothing out the retirement bulge so far. Their good news is faster seniority now. The downside is the seniority progression elevator will slow down sooner (i.e. the hiring wave may effectively rest a couple years earlier than was projected).

I am up 73 numbers since 12/1 so I think we may have a few more than the 29 age 65 retirements that are posted.
