I noticed the 763 has lots of flights to Europe out of Phl. Do those trips usually start with a DH? Do they overnight and come back the next day?

Yes. Crazy senior as well, since you can bail a day early.

So they overnight and come back to Phl or do they continue around Europe?

Both options.

I understand many new-hires on the 747/MD are based in Anchorage and must commute. I have also heard that a number of the schedules in ANC that are available to the most junior pilots are generally not commutable from the lower 48. Is this generally true? I have heard such mixed information about this and about the timeline for a junior 747 FO to change bases to SDF. I ask these specific questions because I currently fly a big Boeing, and so I was led to believe that I would probably be assigned to the heavy fleet if I was hired.

I know things have slowed down a bit, so my information is undoubtedly old. Do I have the right picture of things?

Frank,

That's the gist. I would say "not commutable" might be a little bit strong, but the trips in ANC have definitely gotten worse, with a lot more reports. If past trends hold up, you could probably get down to SDF within a year or two, but if the music stops, someone is going to get stuck in ANC.

Also, ANC is a 747 only domicile.

If hired today, I doubt you'll see SDF 74 any time soon.

You could, of course, bid any other aircraft and hold SDF on the first system bid after your seat lock.
