I heard that UPS purges the pool at the end of every calendar year.

That isn't accurate.

I have been told, however, they "purge" applications and urge pilots not already in the hiring pool or scheduled to interview to reapply on or after 1 Jan for continued consideration.

They've purged pools before and made them re-interview. Some didn't make it the second time.

I don't think they have the luxury of doing so. Rumor that's been consistently going around is that they can't keep the pool to an adequate size. They have been asking poolies to update their application during mid to late January.

FWIW, I've met a couple of guys who interviewed in '14 and didn't start until 2016 and I think a large number of 2015 hires interviewed in 2014. Another new hire from this year said during indoc that he was told UPS isn't going to leave folks in the pool indefinitely anymore.

They have not "purged" the hiring pool since hiring restarted in 2014.
