There is another post with the exact quote from the chief pilot line but it's no longer required. This is ups though, it'll take a while until they change the web site. As for the nepotism discussion, the rules aren't always the rules

So window is currently not open but should open in a few days? Probably making it preferable to get a few people in that don't have the thousand but have some tpic and for some insane reason might move from ups to a legacy if they had the 1000? Speculation of course.

This is no longer a rumor. It was official as of today. PIC requirement is history starting in January.

Indeed. I have 1600 tpic all in Falcons and Gulfstreams and none of the 121s have any interest in me. 4 yr degree in accounting and no blemishes on the professional or personal record. And of course I have friends with double to triple that pic number and no interest in them either. Pilot shortage is pretty much BS.

Job Fair... I went to OBAP and it worked for me. Meeting someone face to face still goes a long way.

Best of luck

It's sort of irrelevant now since the PIC requirement is going away but how exactly did your friend manage to get on in 2001 without having 1,000 pic?

My buddy couldn't even apply (same time frame) because he didn't meet the 1,000pic requirement, the applications stated it was a requirement..

The system wouldn't even let him proceed until the pic minimum was met..
Not saying I don't believe you but how did he/she apply? I know several pilots who wanted to join ups but the mandatory pic requirement prevented them from even applying..

I don't want to say your buddy is mistaken, but the fact is 1000 TPIC wasn't required until post 9/11. I was flying with a 2000 hire and we were talking about new hires. He was wondering what they were looking for. I told him my post 9/11 class, almost everyone had over 10,000 hours (excluding the straight mil guys) with TPIC.

He was shocked because we was hired from the right seat of a Citation with less than 2k.

I was shocked as a new hire when a captain I was flying with broke 1000 TPIC. I thought he meant in the 75/76 since he had been a captain for several years. He told me nope, 1000 TPIC total.

Where in my comment am I disagreeing with you??
Flybyknight said his friend was hired in 2001. I said the same time frame applied to my buddy, 2001, post 9/11.

Not sure if you meant to reply to me or to someone else but basically we're saying the same thing.

1,000 pic WAS a requirement post 9/11. My friends and I went to numerous job fairs during that time and each and every time ups recruiters were pretty specific about that.
Also, once they switched to a computer app you couldn't even complete your application if you didn't meet the 1K PIC requirement, the system wouldn't let you.

If someone was hired after 9/11 without the PIC requirement being met he or she must've had some great connections here.. Otherwise I just don't know how they did it?
(this doesn't apply to FBK's friend but nurp minimums were 50 hours of solo cross country )

My apologies. I didn't see post 9/11 for your friend

I don't even think great connections could get by it post 9/11. I had a level 2 manager walk into HR and ask.
