Default Fleet decision

As a new hire at UPS do you get to bid bases/fleets?
Is one more junior than the others? In other words the quickest way to being a line holder?
Do the 757/767 fleets have, or will they have, the flat panel displays?

Thanks for the info.

New hires bid fleet and domicile based on availability on the their first day. It goes by class seniority which is determined by age.

I would say SDF 757 domestic and SDF A300 are the more junior bases, but ONT also tends to be junior. With that said, you need 15 years seniority (or more) to hold reserve in MIA, but that's because the lines are so terrible for junior pilots, and certainly not commutable if you are junior there.

The 757/767 and A300 are getting cockpit upgrades over the next few years. The A300 already has been approved, and the 757/767 is awaiting authorization from Atlanta for the LDS panel upgrade, which will look similar to the new KC-46 Tanker.

New hires this month have gone to every fleet. The single pay scale tends to flatten everything out. If you don't want to fly international you won't have to on the 757. The A300 does a fair amount of Mexico and Canada but it's all domestic rules. Hate the sort and night flying? The Anchorage fleets do mostly one long leg to the hotel. Perhaps the best feature of the job is picking what you want. With that said if there's a furlough or no movement you can get stuck.

Which aircraft does the least amount of weekend flying?

Do any of the fleets have a single duty period? In other words, one XX day line, instead of several X day lines during the bid period. If so do they tend to go senior?

I think that what you mean are turn lines. Basically leave SDF at 0 dark 30 and return around 11am or 4 pm until midnight. Yes, lots on the 757 domestic, not sure about the airbus or MD. They used to be senior but I don't know. There are also hot standby's that come in around the same time periods, preflight a plane and go to bed for the night (hopefully). Not so senior.

Nope, I guess I did a terrible job framing that question. I am not sure what terminology UPS uses, at a previous airline we called them work periods. So, are there any fleets that have long and/or single work periods? For example, you work ~12 continuous days (minus required rest), then you're done for the remainder of the month/bid period.

International fleets (ANC 747/MD11, SDFZ 757, SDF MD11), tend to have more "long block" type trips and reserve sequences. I *think* bottom guys on Z can generally get a 14 day reserve block with remainder of each 28 day pay period off...not sure about MD SDF or ANC skeds.

SDF A300/757 generally has a lot of week on/off sequences, but those trips typically go senior to bottom 25% or so...week on/off reserve may be possible.
