I'm thinking that he had to have his entire initial line dropped with pay, either for OE or with PB days, and then fly just about nothing but GSs. Maybe some reroute pay or other penalty pay thrown in for good measure.

If you are very good at schedule manipulation and have a lot of luck it is possible without GSWC trips.

Bid reserve for a few months and bank 20 PB days by succeeding in pulling of rolling thunder. Best case scenario is you bank 13 days 2 months in a row and have 26 PB days available.

Then, bid a very high time line with weekends off. Drop your entire schedule using the PB days getting paid for the entire line. Bid weekends off so the coverage is good enough to drop the trips with PB days.

Throw in a blanket no restrictions GS for the entire month and if you are lucky you will fly a full month at double pay.

So you could get paid for 80 hours plus another 160 hours for a total of 240 all with no GSWC.

If you can pull this off you will have made about 2 months of 130-150 hours pay on the reserve months doing rolling thunder and 240 on the month with a line. So in theory you could pull off 540 hours pay in a 3 month period.

In indoc the scheduler told us the story of a 330A who lives in Hawaii. Someone called in sick in Hawaii and he was the only person who could cover the 13 day trip which happened to conflict with his own 13 day trip. He was paid for three 13 day trips and the guy who had a GS request in ahead of him was also paid for a GS 13 day trip. That was a pretty expensive sick call for the company. I'm not sure if that gets you to 270 hours but it's pretty cool if it's a true story.

That can only be partially true at best. Even if he did exactly that, that would be an Inverse Assignment with Conflict, which would pay pay and credit for the trip dropped, and pay/no credit for the trip flown. Still a great deal, but not triple pay.

When you category is below reserves required (has been the case for solid years at a run) then how do you use your payback days?

And if the category is above reserves required, how do you earn payback days?

It seems the Company's inability to plan has the corollary effect of making it impossible to avoid coverage awards.

Coverage awards go as high at 60% on the 73NB and have continued into the fall

Sorry Ferd, but I can't believe Arizona is leading the division either!

Neither can I..........I just know it won't last and don't worry about it. But Ariz State is as high as 12 in some polls

Be senior and bid reserve June, July, and August with weekends off when coverage is poor in the summer. Bank the PB days. Bid a line with weekends off in September when coverage is good and you have PB days to drop trips during the week.

Worst case scenario is there are no GS's and you WS a full month of 70 hours and get paid around 150.

You can almost pull it off twice a year if you use the summer months to bank PB days and then use your PB days in the fall. Do it again banking PB days over the holidays and then use your PB days in the spring before summer flying picks back up.

I've seen guys that are senior in the category almost pull it off, but have yet to see someone get anywhere close to 200 hours. Doesn't work for me because I'm not that senior so I'm usually lucky to bank any PB days or be senior enough to get a line with weekends off.

I've got a 49 hour layover in AMS next week. Anyone ever took the train over to Bastogne for the day? Plan B is maybe a "bridge too far/hells highway" kind of thing if Bastogne is too hard to do.

Thanks,
Fred
