The the last two hiring Windows took mainly people with "close ties"... It certainly doesn't seem it was based on experience.

Sadly, with the closure of Seattle and no mainland base anywhere on the horizon for the foreseeable future, I think it's going to be a lot more than a "few" resignations if we don't get a Delta/United/Fedex contract soon.

What's really needed is a job swap agreement. I know at least a dozen pilots who got tired of HAL's hiring practices from a couple of years ago and went to work for Delta/AA/UA/AS/SWA/Fedex. They still live in Hawaii and would gladly swap if they could keep their seniority.

You propose that Pilot B be hired tomorrow, and given a seniority number better than the one Pilot A has held for 3 years? Does someone from HAL who desperately wants to move back to the mainland get to have a free seniority number at AA in a comparable position and percentage on their list?
It will never work. Sounds good on paper, but so does a national seniority list. It works right up to the moment someone senior to you quits only to be replaced by someone else, and that new instant-senior "someone else" decides to take all your Sydney trips. "Screw you I GOT MINE!!!".
Your date of hire is your date of hire, and if you quit, you quit.

This about sums up what many feel I believe... If a place like JB pays more, has more basing options, and also is much much closer to home... As sad it it may sound, it may be something to look at for myself and others.. We had a guy leave Hawaiian for a 91/135... Closer to home, payed the same, with a better schedule...
It may take some resignations on the FO side to get anyone in management to notice.... It may be an unfortunate necessity.

So what is not good about the schedules at HA?depending on seniority and fleet, one may need to work 20-21 days a month to hold an 80 hr line... Some of our west coast 3 days are worth merely 11-12 hrs. Of course a senior 330 guy can get 18 days off with 85 hrs, but the ratio of guys getting that is out of whack
Are the trips to the mainland and back not 3 day trips?mostly 2 and 3 days...2 days are productive yet tiring after a few in a short period of time... See above for the 3 days.
How about flexibility, can you swap your trip with one in open time if you wanted to?yes.. Sometimes it works, sometimes you have to get scheduling approval because of metrics. I find a majority of the time there is very little room, or gaps, in a schedule to make it work on a consistent basis.. Also is there any chance to occasionally drop a trip if you wanted more days off? yes.. Not real sure about what you can drop down to. But at most I'd say one trip in any given month..and I'm still not 100% sure of that...
Thanks

The only saving grace for me with the schedule in my fleet and seat is that I do enjoy not going up and down all day..typically one flight and done is nice for the most part... My kids however would like to see me a bit more.

So you mean... Pilot A worked at HAL for 3 years. Pilot B works at AA. Pilot B interviewed at HAL before Pilot A, did NOT get hired at HAL but was subsequently hired by AA. He has decided he would rather work for HAL after all.
