As I recall, in the hiring boom of pre 9/11 lots of people were bypassing SWA for the legacies. However, when the _____ hit the fan, and all the furloughs started, there were a lot of people wishing they had opted for SWA.

Not saying that SWA will never furlough, but as far as I know, they have never had to.....

Pure economics, my man. They ran out of qualified guys willing to drop 8 large on a ball cap. I am glad they did away with it. As much as it pains me to say it, the employee/management relationship here is pretty much just like any other big airline. The only "culture" we still have is all crewmember to crewmember and a good relationship with our customers. The GO is so far disconnected from the front line worker bee it isn't even funny. It is painful to watch sometimes.
I love it here, but Herb's airline is gone. It's science.

I'm not buying. I think there were plenty of qualified guys. I think they have the blinders on and think it is like the old days when it was the top dog and everyone wanted to be there. They stopped the requirement because they finally got people in training that could sign off the type. Kind of like how JetBlue has guys with several thousand hours applying and for a marketing gimmick they hired a handful of 0 time guys that they are going to take all the way to the cockpit.

To those that have applied:

Are you able to update your app/profile once it is submitted? I'm at 900 TPIC and wonder if I should just wait until I have the 1000 or apply now and just keep it updated. Does it even let you submit if you don't have the 1000TPIC?

Hoping to talk to them at a job fair, but short on the TPIC for another month.

As I recall, on either the SWA site or the pilotcred site it asks if you have 1000 TPIC yes/no. I think it was in a series of questions on the southwest internal posting, but I am not 100% sure.

You don't want to apply and then have to check "no" on one of the discriminator questions. Then your app could be immediately disqualified.

I guess one of the guys who walked out of class for UAL a couple days ago changed his mind and wants back in. Not sure if they let him or not....if it were me I'd think I'd know for sure what I want to do with the rest of my leg and not be wishy washy over it.

To each his own.

It's OK. I am sure they will keep a spot open for him back at Mesa. Plus a bonus $$ to go back. Always options available.

Pretty much. It's simply history repeating itself/coming full circle.

Probably safe to wait until you hit the 1000 TPIC then press submit on your app. Talking to the People Dept at a job fair will help too. Good luck.
