Problem is this....You merge 2 regional airlines with no domestic east/west network you still have a regional airline. JetBlue and Alaska are “cherry pickers” with no domestic network. Have never set foot on JetBlue or Hawaiian for that matter and hope it stays that way. If we have to go through another merger/acquisition I hope it is with one of the four Major airlines.

Fixed it for you. This is likely more reflective of the actual thoughts of a large part of the group here. Most of us who have been around a while expected us to be bought out or to merge eventually. These were the two that no one wanted anything to do with (non-ALPA, history of staple-jobs during SLI, corporate cultural differences etc). So for those of us that expected this, Alaska being the one was a blessing,

Since it’s been announced I agree Alaska is almost best case. But some had a complex against JetBlue or Alaska for other reasons. SWA being the absolute worst case scenario somewhere between chapter 11 and 7. Alaska is the most closely aligned culturally. So much so even the public felt so strongly for it.
It's the same reason Target does their June product layouts differently depending on which region the store is in. It's all about profits.

Culture is only important when trying to win the hearts of those parties with any say in how business is conducted, usually keyed in on social media. All that matters is the bottom line, and if a company can make money. I highly doubt P.I. actually cared about making arrival videos telling tourists how to behave in HI. But it made for good optics.

In seriousness, Working at Hawaiian or Alaska is different than a Texas based anything. Culturally.

I don’t believe you’re a pilot. Every pilot is a business genius who could run an airline better than any CEO, a brilliant labor attorney who could get a better deal than any of those “clowns on the MEC”, a financial wizard who makes Jordan Belford look like the mouse of Wall Street, and an infectious disease expert who could have saved the whole world a lot of time and money if only the WHO had bothered to ask them.
