This was sent out in JetBlue’s daily email yesterday and also published in the below link. It is only a re-protect agreement right now, but could it be the beginning of a partnership or further codeshare agreement to help fight off DL in the covid recovery? DL has clearly come after AS in SEA, B6 in JFK/BOS, and to a degree AA in JFK/BOS/MIA/LatAm. I know everyone is in survival mode right now, but I’m sure the C suites are trying to look down the road to emerge as strong as possible. Also of note, B6 and VX signed a similar re-protect agreement in June 2014. AS guys’ thoughts? Nothingburger or something else brewing?

“Effective immediately JetBlue has re-protect agreements in place with American Airlines and Alaska Airlines. These allow customer service reps to use those airlines’ flights when a JetBlue option does not meet the passenger’s need during irregular operations. Moreover, this is not just a temporary solution. In an internal memo today the company indicated it “[expects] to use all efforts to extend these re-protect agreements once this crises passes.”

Not sure if related, but AS joined OneWorld a few weeks back. Unlike most pilots, I really dont know all of the ins and outs of the airline industry. I am not fully aware of what the differences are between codeshare agreements, alliances, and "partnership" deals like this.

Pipe dream, but I’d love to see it happen. We’d have to find a way to maintain separate brands since they all have strength in their respective regions. I’m sure some sort of setup like Republic when they operated multiple certificates and have a mechanism for employees to transfer between them through vacancy bids.
