I think we learned with the Virgin America acquisition that” Different doesn’t Work”. In every way. There is not a remnant left of Virgin America including most of their customer base. Prior to the Wuhan Flu SFO was significantly underperforming and in the post panic airline world it may go away. It is likely that this near-shutdown will also be the opportunity to return rapidly to a single fleet.....A Jetblue acquisition would be a disaster

The last Q&A on today’s Alaska employee webcast eluded to more than just a One World partnership with AA...

Pure speculation as always, but I just found Ben’s answer to be peculiar. He mentioned “more” and “new opportunity” in a way that was a bit unexpected.

A three way will never happen but this is a fun conversation. The only name that isn't regional is Jetblue. Hawaiin and Alaska are great brands but not for a worldwide carrier. People aren't going to choose Hawaiin or Alaska to fly from London to New York. The surviving name has to be Jetblue. You maintain ownership of the other names so that anyone typing Hawaiin Airlines or Alaska Airlines into their computer goes to the Jetblue website. You paint the 737's with the name JetBlue Alaska. The 717's and 787's with the name JetBlue Hawaiin. Done.

Yup.

But never say never with what's going on now.

Problem is this....You merge 2 regional airlines with no domestic east/west network you still have a regional airline. JetBlue and Alaska are “cherry pickers” with no domestic network. Have never set foot on JetBlue or Hawaiian for that matter and hope it stays that way. If we have to go through another merger/acquisition I hope it is with one of the four Major airlines.

except they’re in no shape to buy anybody right now and for the foresee able future. The only thing that would work would be a merger, not an acquisition.

There's a thread about AA buying AS... more likely that QX will buy AA.

No domestic East/west network? What direction is NY/BOS/FL to SEA/SFO/LAX/PDX (and a bunch of other random west coast cities from NY). If you said no midcon network I’d agree. But one of B6’s largest network strengths is transcon...ie east/west. I’m not necessarily advocating for a merger, as I don’t care for the AS product or AS (lack of) scope, but if it happened, I’d think a midcon hub/focus city would be needed. But I think the east coast and west coast hubs would be just about covered, with a pretty complementary network. But maybe this just stays as an irop partnership...or maybe turns into a code share, improving each other’s network outside of the regions of strength. Anything is possible at this point though.
