It probably started as a glitch on the part of our award-winning IT department and then they decided to just leave it the way it is. Why bother fixing it? Did you send an inquiry to the IT department?

Vacation bidding and trading is a dumpster fire and it gets worse with each passing year.

Just submit an IT ticket. Lets see what happens.

A huge complaint about the new vacation trading system versus the old pilot site trading system is the "fixed" dates when you select days you want to trade out.

For example, say you want to trade out 4 days of current vacation for 4 days that are open Dec 28, 29, 30, and 31. With this new system, you select 4 current vacation days and select the 4 days in December. If even 1 day is no longer available, you'll get the error - no longer available message. That's fine. But now you STILL have to select one more day out of vacation open time to trade 4 for 4 days. That kills time on Nov 3rd, when everyone is busy taking up days. Because now you have to scroll around and find one open day.

In the old system, you picked 4 vacation days, and on the left column all 4 days had checkboxes. Meaning you'd select which of these current vacation days you want traded out. In this same scenario, if you got an error message for December because only 3 are available, you could *immediately* uncheck one current vacation day box on the left column, and then uncheck the December day that wasn't available, and then submit again instantly.

With this new vacation system, once you pick 4 days to trade out, you are now locked for 4 days and MUST select 4 available days to trade out. There is no way to unselect one current vacation day and make it 3 days to trade. You'd have to cancel the entire request and start all over again, and pick 3 days to trade out.

This is a huge drawback of the new system.

Another thing you'll have to get used to at Alaska is the hotel employees' reactions to you. It usually either disdain or pity. We always have the worst rooms and the smallest restaurant discounts. Twice on my list trip I got these reactions when I told the restaurant that I worked for Alaska. The first time the waiter snickered and gave me my 5 perfect discount. The second time the waiter shook her head and told me she'd give me the JetBlue discount because we didn't get one.

All the quality of life variables at this place were "hand shake deals" and management has spent the last 5 years mining them for gold. I seriously doubt that our union has the horsepower to understand let alone fix all the minutiae that the company has torpedoed in recent times.

Let's get scope, scheduling, and pay figured out before we start whining about saving 75 cents on a cheeseburger at the Sheraton.

Wow, I had no idea it was this bad out there on the line. You guys can’t be serious, this only gets more embarrassing by the minute.

The most embarrassing thing on the AS forum here is your incorrect predictions and how obtuse you are about it.

Embarrassing is exactly what it is. I'll try and wear my hat next week. I've heard everyone thinks we're super cool in a hat.
