How much back side of the clock flying do you typically do at AK? I realize the answers will likely vary, based on seniority and bids, but still curious. Big picture, is there a lot, moderate, a little? Bonus, if you're feeling chatty, what strategies do you use to get adequate rest before the occasional all nighter? Thanks

The Hawaii red eyes are pretty easy. Trans on red eyes suck. All that being said when you are on reserve try to avoid the all nighter zone. I say try because sometimes the switch you into it. Once you have a line it seems like people are able to avoid them for the most part.

It’s typically 25-30% of the SEA bid packet. Minimum. I bid avoid the entire thing. It’s also my main hesitancy for bidding for captain but I still do anyhow lol

I can only speak for the SEA bid package, but there is a lot. I primarily fly the ANC/FAI all nighters. Go to work around 6PM get home around 4. There are tougher ones that start 8-9pm and get back later in the morning 6-7. Those suck. But I have kids and my wife works so I did these. Only work 10 days a month but the bid package says it’s 20. I am only away from my house for 10 hours at the most and with 8 hours of sleep (18) so I don’t see how you can call that 2 days. Anyway when I get home I go right to sleep wake up to help get kids to school and them sleep until noon. Then I have the rest of the day feeling great and do it again that night. Do 3 in a row with 4 days off then split the others 2 2. Works for me. Always have UPS jump seaters headed to ANC. Always make sure to tell them I didn’t apply to UPS Because of all the night flying.

It’s nice to see on the Alaska’s World employee website that one of our flight attendants just got hired at Alaska as a first officer. It’s a heartwarming story and I am genuinely happy for her. I also hope that this pilot group gets, at a minimum, an industry standard contract very soon that will make it advisable for her to remain at Alaska Airlines for her entire career.

Yeah... The story of one more person joining our seniority list who buys Alaska's "We're a family!!" garbage and accepts their "company culture" in lieu of tangible compensation and QOL isn't a heartwarming story, that's the absolute last thing this place needs (all due respect to that individual). She loved getting treated like absolute garbage as a FA here so much that she decided to come back for more as a pilot?

"From the beginning Alaska has been like a family, and I’ve never felt like a number here.”

This is why we will never have a shortage of applicants. There is a conveyor belt of people who love an idea of something that doesn’t exist.

Sounds like growth is coming for SFO and lots of it. Go figure. Hopefully not all E175s😂. Look at SEA mid and transcons, that is where we are planning on going. Growth in frequency is the plan for our entire network.
Management is still of the belief that the majority of the pilot group is very happy.🤔🤔🤔
Variant names will change, management seems confident that their plan will not.
Hope everyone is ready for another merger, I think we are in the bottom of the 7th. It’s not done but the tea leaves seem to say it’s close. HAL. I really hope the union is ready for this curveball. I think ALPA will be given 5 minutes notice this time around.
Management feels they are flush with cash and they want to push LUV around.🤔😱…. If they are so flush, “pay me.” I can’t believe that is the airline they want to get in the ring with. Time will tell. This could be embarrassing 😳.
They think the 320 has leprosy… they want those things GONE!
Cheers Happy Holidays! You are all up to date.
