Default Media Incompetence

Let’s see, since Friday from various news sources that are local affiliates, I’ve heard:

We’re on strike.

That our picket was a job action.

That as of Sunday we were “…in our third day of protests”.

Absolutely EPIC level incompetence.

Incompetent as they may be, it sounds like they may be helping your cause. As long as the company can’t prove you’re actually doing any of those things, and customers start to get jittery about planning travel on Alaska air, it may just be the kick in the nuts your management needs to give you a decent contract.

Agreed. Which is why I found it odd that the company’s narrative was to insinuate that our picket was the reason for the cancellations. I’ve never seen a company still in mediated negotiations, not in a cooling off period, not in self help, EXACERBATE a potential problem of revenue loss. Normally it’s rogue pilots doing things to make things worse for the company. In THIS case, the COMPANY….is making matters worse for the company. It’s as though they think, “We’ll show those pilots. We’ll tell the public we’re not dependable and it’s all THEIR fault, cause the pilots aren’t gonna like having the public and media blame them!” Note to Alaska management: WE don’t sell tickets on Alaska Airlines. We’re not negotiating with the public. We’re negotiating with YOU! 🤦‍♂️

I’m not sure they understand the point of informational picketing. But, this company continues to surprise and dazzle me in ways not even Chris Angel could do.

Not by a long shot. But, I’ve typically laid that blame at the big corporate news outlets. I’m a little surprised just deeply the rot goes on the tree.

On Anchorage's only local TV news station they said "Alaska Airlines Pilots earn $341,000 per year on average". Last night 10 PM news. NBC KTUU channel 2. Someone should write in and force them to redact that with the correct number. One would think that's only the number for captains.

ive heard that we actually HAVE reached out with correct data, but honestly, edits and retractions are almost useless in a society that gets “news” by simply reading headlines in the first place.
