I read the same account online which seems credible. If true, it does not paint the captain in a good light (it was the FO who stayed on the plane as the captain stormed away). And if true, my opinion is that the captain needs to find a new job. There is video of the captain storming away. Tough to argue for better pay and work conditions when we are seen acting like this.... The royal "we" since I don't work at Alaska. This episode makes us look like clowns.

But the FO's take is essentially "we're done here" because CA told him to do a few things and he didn't like the way he was told to do it. It appears to be the FO's take and that's the best thing he can say to make it sound like he's in the right?
There has to be something more to the story.

This is why no fly lists exist
We should be more professional than to subject our customers to another delay after an already weather delayed flight for crew personalities conflicts. I get good CRM I key but this should have been handled before boarding.
Here’s a tweet that sums it up“After an hour and a half delay, we now return to the terminal due to ’a failure of the captain and first officer to get along,’” a Twitter user named Chris Schumm tweeted at 5:47 p.m. on July 18. “All I can say is wow.... just wow.”

Honestly, it's the PA that bothers me the most. That's definitely whiskey tango foxtrot territory there. Just make a PA "we have to return to gate due to duty day limits" or some such.

Disagreements don’t always arise before boarding/pushback. If they suddenly had unreconcilable differences before takeoff, then they made the right call to gate return. Hell, we have no clue what caused the disagreement!
Their only misstep was making the PA to the passengers and being too detailed.
