Disagreements don’t always arise before boarding/pushback. If they suddenly had unreconcilable differences before takeoff, then they made the right call to gate return. Hell, we have no clue what caused the disagreement!
Their only misstep was making the PA to the passengers and being too detailed.

Really though, if they were having a conflict that could negatively affect safety, isn't this a good decision to make? I'd rather have this happen, than a serious error happen because they weren't getting along. It's a long flight and if he felt he wasn't safe to complete it with his FO because of a personal conflict, how can anyone disagree with his decision?
