[*]There were storms in the Washington, DC area
[*]The captain was arguing with ramp agents and gate agents to get the aircraft fueled, even though the ramp was closed

[*]this is standard practice during thunderstorms for the safety of ground staff
[*]During the taxi out, he was “barking orders” at the first officer
[*]At one point, the captain said, “Start #2. Get us EDCT. Get us the reroute.”
[*]The first officer asked him to slow down and prioritize what he wanted done first
[*]The captain responded, “Just frigging do it.”
[*]It was the first officer who then said “we are done here” and opted to return to the gate
[*]But at the gate, it was the captain who told passengers that he could not get along with the first officer and stormed off

Sounds like the CA couldn’t manage his flight deck. It also sounds like the FO doesn’t know the concept of CRM. Overall a total disaster for Alaska Airlines.

The APC Investigation Board on the case fast as per usual.

Idk all the details obviously but I do know the captain well. I flew with him many times when I flew for Alaska and never had a bad trip or experience. Excellent pilot as well. Everyone has had a bad day in the flight deck and wishes they could have do-overs…

Moral of the story….In general you are hauling a plane load of twit idiots. Stay off the damn PA…Period…….WX, Fuel, Mechanical, Crew Duty….Just dont talk about it…No PA longer than 7 seconds….Pilots that venture into public speaking deserve everything they get…Think, If it was a freighter… What would you say and who would you say it to..

That's one way to do it. People are not freight tho...

There is a way to tactfully provide information to your pax when things are going/have gone sideways which will materially affect them.

From the beginning, it's the CA that sets the tone. It's the CA that has to, well, BE A CA and prevent things like this even getting close to this point and know the overall concept of CRM.

I'm sure there's people here that have backtracked the trip, but who knows? Maybe the CA was being a rectum orifice the whole trip and this just brought it to a head?
