What is yall's thoughts on all of this? Some CAs tell me that since the deice checklist requires MCD closed, they won't say they're ready until the door is closed...and if they won't close it up, then CA's will just deplane the plane back into the gate.

Thoughts?
Think AA tried that for one day in PHL a while back. Captains shut the door when they wanted to or didn’t board until they could depart… then someone in management realized having them hold the door open past departure time tanked their D+0 metric that their 16% bonuses were based on that experiment was over the next day.

In theory, unless gate agents choose to not close the flight until the Iceman is ready for the flight to push.

Then the gate has to explain the D0 fail.

"Well I didn't want the pilots to get paid for just sitting there..."

(I don't work for Alaska)

What's next? Is the company going to ask us to taxi with the MCD open because there are 40 planes ahead of us for takeoff at EWR?

It's my opinion that delays are delays, (ir)regardless of the reason. Once boarding is complete, the crew is now responsible and in charge, whether all is quiet, or an emergency evac is required, therefore we all should get paid for said responsibility.

A delay for de-icing is just that, just another situation that crews deal with in the safe performance of their jobs.

I think you’re implying it's about the company not wanting to pay us when delays happen? That’s actually incorrect…

The whole thing came about due to the Tarmac Delay program, and the hefty fines incurred by the FAA if an airline goes over a certain amount of time on a tarmac delay….the clock starts when the main cabin door is shut, whether you are still sitting at the gate or elsewhere.

The OP is misinformed. It’s not about having the main cabin door open during deicing at the gate. The company simply said don’t close the door until you have called for de-ice, have a game plan, and know where you are in the de-ice sequence. They don’t want you closing the door when you haven’t even setup de-icing yet, aren’t in the queue, and are #63 in sequence to get de-iced….
