Not a huge fan of AA bases but there are a couple that I could see myself living in long term, same with DL. I haven't been at AS for all that long (<1 year, but approaching 1 year quickly), and I am a bit torn on what the right move would be. My main point of concern is the state of the economy, I have a fear of leaving and then being exposed to a furlough whereas staying would've kept me safe. Naturally AA's history in that department is not great, where Alaska is more favorable. To create some clarity, if it weren't for the fear of furlough, I don't think it would be as difficult of a decision for me. Sure, starting all over again and being a probationary pilot and being at the bottom of the list isn't very appealing but I believe it would be worth it in the end. But if it's all cut short because I get furloughed then what's the point. I am interested if anybody else has a similar dilemma or if someone who is more seasoned in the industry and its relationship with the economy have some words of advice. I would also like to point out that it is not lost on me how lucky I am to even have a decision like this. The industry is in an amazing place for people like us right now, and like I said, it's a very good problem to have.

Thanks,
C
My motto has always been avoid a commute at all costs. I turned down AA earlier this year, but I’m a Bay Area guy with a 20/30 min commute. Everyone I talk to seems miserable at AA and I didn't feel like dealing with that every week, but that had less to do with my decision.

Live where you work and this job is amazing. Can’t go wrong with any of these companies though.

Sounds like UA would be a pretty good fit for you.

I am SEA 737 DL left AS after a year live in sea no regrets on my choice but alaska has the chillest and easiest flying with Hawaii and Mexico. Also you credit more with the same days off at AS. DL crews little more dull AS, has had more chill and fun crews but green slips here and widebody and retirements made my seniority shoot up way faster also less redeyes. Can’t go wrong with AS or DL but DL has more widebody and retirements going for it and rolling thunder. I would not worry about furlough with the # of retirements. Good luck no bad choice to stay at AS or go to DL.
just stay/go to a place where you can drive to work

I just left for DL after just under a year and a half on property. Bitter sweet because I loved the crews out of PDX but the opportunities at DL for me outweighed the nice base and crews that PDX offered.

SFO I would go United, SEA Delta, and SoCal aka LAX AA. I'm surprised the great OZ hasn't jumped on this with info about how terrible the legacies are. The good new is, as you already probably know, you're at a really good airline. If it is SEA or PDX you want to live in I wouldn't leave AK. Just my two cents.

What about the LAX?
Got CJOs from both and have no intention flying WB?
How soon can I get LAX at Alaska and how long would I expect to be on reserve there?
From many posts here it looks like it is a very chilled base...
Are there a lot of red-eyes? Multi-sector days?

What many fail to understand, despite the "no intention to fly WB" a company that offers WB flying ends up drawing significant portions of the seniority list towards that goal, so leaving behind an "artificial" seniority bump to those willing to stay and fly the NB flying.

Especially when compared to companies that operate only one type of flying where all bases are generic and flying can be shared/covered by other bases, you have much slower QOL seniority progression then places where the bases have different types and the seniority list is more diffused across the spectrum of fleets/types of flying.

LAX is stagnant right now and will be indefinitely. It’s 8+ years to upgrade and multiple captains have been downgraded or displaced. You may be able to hold LAX as a FO, and maybe even get a line pretty quickly due to attrition, but then you will sit there for years. It’s hard to recommend anyone from So Cal come to Alk until a San base opens.

It'll be a long time. All new hires for the foreseeable future are going to SFO.

Most junior FO is a July '23 hire and most junior line holder is a Dec '22 hire. A lot of Virgin guys are in transition training right now and that'll push everyone down because they are all senior.
