You say it’s temporary, I say it’s not Herb’s airline anymore….the current management isn’t going anywhere and they have proven to be toxic.

Work where you live. No question. Seattle is a miserable commute on a good day for SWA folks. Some do OAK, but others go as far as LAS. I wouldn't want to waste 2 hours of my life in Seattle traffic to have to fly to work.

Alaska management is toxic as hell. And as I’ve said before - if their kinda sorta new attitude lasts through the next downturn, I’ll be the first to gladly eat crow. Southwest management - unlike AAG, doesn't benefit from the same type of goodwill shown by their pilot group. They are in serious trouble if they don’t leap-frog in the industry with this next pilot contract. And they’re not going to jeopardize the business over this. The contract WN pilots expect will arrive and this too shall pass. Then they’ll continue to enjoy their superior structural benefits for many years.

I fixed it for you above. You definitely can’t say they have been lately, quite the opposite. Is it a long lasting change? Only time will tell, but me thinks things have changed for good. Southwest mgmt is clearly headed in the opposite direction, and not somewhere i’d personally want to dip my toes in. To each their own though…

you might be the only one who thinks BJ has any lasting potential. Everyone else sees him as a transition CEO, just like the guy who filled in between Herb and Gary that most probably don't even know about.

Spoken from what, exactly? "Toxic as hell" are some pretty strong words. What's your experience, outside of aviation and outside of VX/AS, to make that statement?





I'll take the word of current SWA pilots who say that it isn't Herb's airline anymore, than a burnt out POed Alaska pilot who hates all things Alaska.

Of course it’s not Herb’s airline anymore haha. Anybody who signs on with an airline for some myth of the founders’ culture is painfully naive. That show will always, always end. It’s basically the law. Make career decisions based on fortress hubs, commuting, totality of flying options, and your very best WAG.
