Default Alaska Hawaiian JCBA

Was curious what AS guys have as pros and cons their contract and what they are looking for.
HA has a nice tidbit for narrowbody guys who are nearing retirement. You can bid for and if you can hold a widebody slot, the company can elect to not train you, but they must pay you the rate if you are within two years of mandatory retirement age.

Dont plan on this at AS. You will spend 6 months in transition training to complete OE and retire after 1 revenue flight.

Seems like key is both MEC's have an opportunity to cherry pick the best of both contracts and work together, ....this deal creates stronger synergies
for both airlines......should create better contracts for both.

Alaska has a clause for someone looking to upgrade within two years of retirement. But nothing for fleet transitions.

Doesn't affect me but there are some pretty awful parts of the contract here at AS that need to change for JR pilots:

- RSV picking up open time is not protected by the contract. It is a letter than can go away in 30 days.

- recent changes but RSV not allowed to pick up sim seat sub in open time.

- If a RSV is allowed to pick up open time, once they pick up they can not trade or drop that trip.

- No red eye override. Red eye goes JR and there is a lot of green on green red eye flying. IMO this is a safety issue.

Concur redeye over-ride, that should include scheduling credit... folks forced into (or choosing) constant WOCL should not have to work as much block as 9-5 pilots.

But green on green is an FAR thing, the company has to fix that with reserves. Not sure how PBS will address that, probably not at all since it can't predict exactly when a green pilot will get off green status.

It is a huge plus to stay on your current airframe (QOL etc.) and get the higher rate if that is your desire.
There is a certain benefit to the company as training is costly and takes you off line for months as well as having to train your replacement.
I have been looking forward to this especially getting closer to 65 and not wanting to work until 67.

Also reserve pilots can not pick up pilot to pilot or trade something they picked up in open time.

The company definitely uses any wording and/or omissions to their advantage. One that blew my mind was shared by a senior, line holder captain: If a trip for a line holder is cancelled, the contract says to remain contactable. You tell me what contactable means to you and I guarantee it's not how the company uses the word Hello, grievances. The captain told me there was grassroots effort with this last CBA to define contactable, but the specific wording was removed at the company's request. The company wants the vague interpretation option to remain so they can use to the detriment of the pilot group.
