Wow, that was fun.

seems there are a lot of pilots that think pilots on reserve are not second class citizens.

then there was the DEI fiasco.

hey, boomers…. News flash, the young pilots outnumber you.

what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. I never can articulate details just feelings. Old pilots here be trippin. Some people like to hear themselves talk and repeat themselves over and over. Parliamentary procedures are paramount. Dogs and cats living together. DEI is the devils tool.

the Pizza was awesome except for the pineapple, no one ate that.

ran too long.

One thing that was very important to note. We were voting to guide the MEC. We were not voting to decide either way how this would go.

The members present voted in almost total to continue to allow reserve pilots to pick up open time. There were many comments made that were very similar to my experience on reserve. So I did not make any comments as they would have been redundant. The scheduling chair provided some data that reflected the reality of reserves picking up open time. For example reserves pick up 1% of available open time. Those in favor of restricting reserves from picking up also made some very valid and well thought out remarks. Overall, the discourse was extremely well thought out and civil.

At the end of the meeting unexpectedly a member made the motion to add an agenda item concerning DEI. This was not considered a "best practice" by the MEC. My quotes as it is difficult to describe the situation. Basically this was an opportunity for something to be introduced and voted on by a very small minority of the total membership. This is generally frowed upon. Overall discourse was civil and the MEC moved to table the motion for another time. So the entire pilot group could have the opportunity to be present.

I would imagine so since the youngest boomer is within three years of retirement. Just make sure you don’t address the issues at hand, just denigrate an entire generation based on arbitrarily selected dates. It’s the way things are done these days.

What he said. We're issuing infractions for generational insults... you can use generational terms in the context of the actual demographics, but keep it civil.

Thanks

boomer is a fun word to use on the internet. In this case I was not referring that generation, but a group of pilots defined by a date that is in no way arbitrary, 2009. Seems some pilots hired prior think all rules should benefit them and no one else. This is why that room was so crowded. The pilots hired after that date showed up to call BS.

That's like using the n-word and then claiming you're only talking about members of a particular gang in a particular neighborhood, not all black people.

Maybe you need to establish a new, specific derogatory slang term for your intended target.
