Alaska Air Hiring
#7821
I spoke to a rep when the incentive lines for March and April were implimented. The rep said it was to prevent downgrades. On face value it seems like downgrades are on the table and being considered by managment. It may have been an over reaction to the Boeing troubles. However, it seems to be the go to move.

Who knows what is true or not but some friends in higher places have said there have been zero discussions on downgrades, an amount, or anything of that nature. I wouldn't agree to say that it is the "go-to" move. Again, if there is a legitimate overstaffing in a given seat, then maybe. We obviously were overstaffed enough to offer LOAs and ILs but again, we continued to upgrade first officers to captain, during this process lol. We knew PBS was going to make things more efficient which is why the company wanted it, so the lack of open time isn't super surprising but clearly, we are in a period of slightly reduced flying, a bit of overstaffing (apparently in both seats) and we are waiting for deliveries to make up the difference.

What type of contact should we be maintaining with onboarding while staring at our CJO paperweight? I reached out beginning of May asking if they still were planning on starting training up in the fall as well as beginning of June I reached out and they seem to be lost comms...
I'm pretty aware at this point of what the pilots know/feel about when training should start back up but the last offical word we got from them was in February (about starting back up in the fall). I can't imagine onboarding and pilot hiring have a ton on their plate right now so I'm guessing they maybe have been told to not talk about it.

So if HAL is hiring and I currently have a CJO with Alaska, I could in theory potentially get hired with Hawaiian and start before Alaska calls me with a class date and still have a better Alaska seniority number due to the merger?

I understand HAL has over 100 CJOs in its own pool. Not sure if they merge CJOs while certificates are separate or how that goes down. Apparently Alaska has told us to meet our needs for hiring in the meantime, which makes sense.

correct. Although be warned, quite a few people who did the same thing during the last merger ended up commuting for an extended duration until the first cross-bids started occurring roughly 2 years later. Gained seniority earlier but temporarily inconvenienced in the short term
