people left in 22 pre contract people left in 23 cause we had less pay than the big 3. Company gave us 2 unscheduled raises to match pay at DL and ua then people stopped leaving. Look at the attrition reports in 2022 vs 24-26 very little have left compared to them money talks very simple. Company knows this JCBA will drag till something breaks nothing personal just business

I have learned to say please fill every jumpseat, every time. Once I said jump seats are open (for you to use) and the agent said “ok I’ll keep them open”. I quickly corrected that and apologized for not being clear. I also do the walk. However it seems line you are correct there is a minority but relevant culture of not accepting jump seaters.

As an outsider, and lifelong commuter, I've had a few bizarre experiences that back this theory up. Twice I have been refused a jumpseat for no reason. In both instances the gate agent went to the CA to plead my case, but was told "no", and I was never allowed the opportunity to speak to the CA directly. One was pre-shrooms dude, the other after.

That being said, thank you to all the awesome AS pilots that have got me back and forth between work and home! These were isolated incidents and everyone else has generally been great.

Hopefully we get more than payrates

I think this was an older cultural holdout that largely doesn't exist in 2026. At least I hope it doesn't. Lots more commuters at AS now, so the idea that everyone just lives in Gig Harbor is getting less and less common.

I was more speaking in a overarching theme when they paid less than their competitors people left. When they paid the same people stayed very simple formula.

Understood. Unfortunately that simple formula applies to contract ratification too. Look at payrates then vote.

Pretty clear these days given the amount of attention paid to commutability in pairing construction. Funny thing is after the hotels were taken away nobody I’ve talked to had an improvement in their awards. I think the commuters say they want 4 day trips then bid high credit one and two day trips willing to buy a hotel to not be on some pos 4 day.

But alas I’m on a tangent. I just would like the union to once say we are trying to get more one and two day trips for the local folks, but their number one concern seems to be commuters. The days of Alaska being mainly locals is definitely gone.
