They will struggle to get talent in the future because everyone is watching their behavior now. Spirit and Frontier will capture the growth opportunities presented by contraction at the big 4 over the next 2-3 years. Allegiant will be left behind as a smoking pile of rubble that was once a great airline and a big hole in the ground in Florida. .
Look at the ACMI carriers that were the bottom pay with terrible work rules. All of a sudden, it is the place that everyone is flocking to because they are hiring. Even with the recent $10 raise, those places are still the same terrible company with a long expired contract, but now everyone is going there.
The same will happen with whatever carriers survive all of this. A few years from now, the music will start again and all of those that spent the last 7-10 years at a regional will jump at the first place that will hire them. Companies are in survival mode. It is just business but you are trying to make it personal. The company said that they needed concessions (whether true or not) and the pilot group said no (rightfuly so). Now, the company is playing their next move. The massive cuts and furloughs would have happened even if you guys took concessions, so it is best that you did not, but you can't be surprised that they are hitting back. It is part of the game.

It was made clear that the time for negotiations are now over and furloughs will begin on October 1st. The furlough notices must go out in advance so probably start seeing them in September. It's kind of a shame to because it seems loads are poised to increase, but at this point they must carry through with their promises as that is what is important it seems.

There are some Airbus' that they would like to retire for a variety of reasons, one big one being some A320's cannot be converted to 183 seats.

I am no expert, but I believe the contract and the WARN act both require a 60 day notice prior to furloughs. The current fall off in business may allow them out of the contract required notification, but the company has already stated that the WARN act requires 60 days. There is also timing of displacement bids for base closures to consider, but I don’t think that will change the furlough timeline.

Management is taking their ball and going home. They claimed they offered logical concessions (gutting our entire scheduling system is not logical) and we refused to counter offer (we gave them multiple counters), so they have no choice but to go with the nuclear option. This is nothing more than veiled threats to furlough massive numbers in retaliation for our refusal to let them throw our contract in the incinerator.

They are very bewildered and confused. Sounds like lying traciTool is becoming hysterical. She basically over played her hand badly. They were trying so hard to break our contract. Swing and a miss. Our union on the other hand is hitting on all cylinders and looking like a well-oiled machine. Steady and calm. Well done gents.

Furloughs at G4 would require 60 days notice, per the WARN Act. So end of July/beginning of August furlough notices would go out. There are some exceptions that might allow for less than 60 days notice. See below:
The federal WARN Act allows less than 60 days’ notice for employment losses that are the result of natural disasters or unforeseeable business circumstances, which include “an unanticipated and dramatic major economic downturn.” Good arguments exist that the COVID-19 pandemic qualifies under both, but those are often-litigated exceptions that generally cannot be resolved early in the litigation before discovery. So employers use those exceptions with some risk. Notably, both exceptions require as much notice as is practicable.
