I know I've said this before, but reading that many are not taking the job (or even the interview) makes me positively giddy with excitement. You folks are doing us a HUGE service by not sacrificing your self-respect in order to log some MD-80 time. The only type of pilot I could even fathom wanting to come here would be a single 25 year old with a tote and futon as possessions and a month-to-month lease on an apartment (living with Mom and Dad is a plus). To anyone thinking of applying or interviewing, please do yourself a favor and stay put. This industry is about to bust wide open and there will be tons of better opportunities out there. To those who will be starting class next week, I wish you luck but I have a feeling that you haven't the faintest clue what you're in for.

With exception of the TWA/AA guys on property, the pilots being hired now, with airline experience, will help unify the group for a real contract.
That was confusing. Are you implying that the TWA/AA folks are not in support of our union? If so, I beg to differ. Of course I welcome our new pilots but unfortunately, the time from "happy new hire" to "buyer's remorse" is growing shorter and shorter. Management will be more inclined to secure a first IBT contract with us if there weren't hundreds of pilots lining up to work here. It's simple supply and demand. When I was hired several years ago, nobody else was hiring so the choices were limited. With the way things are going (or will be), I just fail to see the appeal of this place for a new hire. |

What's the timeframe from phone interview to getting a face to face (or TBNT)? They said HR would get back to me within a week, so far it's been 8 days. Just tryin' to plan ahead.
And yes, Im aware of the problems here... But considering Im at a regional that's parking airplanes... :( |
What did they ask you in the phone interview? I have mine on Monday.
|
Good news!!
The open time for the last two weeks of the month is down to only 7 pages! On another note, most of the newhire class from January is being paid to sit at home still. Most of them haven't started the sim yet. That's $500/week on training pay. |
They still haven't started sim? Wow. Guess the LAS 88 is still down. Haven't heard anything.

Doesn't aa fly super 80 while allegiant uses 88's?
|
I think they tried to use AA sims once and it didn't work out or something. The last August class was sent to Higher Power to get their types when we couldn't do them and the sim was down. Pan Am in LAS bought an ex-AA sim and is currently rebuilding the panel to match our configuration. From what I've heard, the AA sim is all classic/analog and has the single Universal FMS so they're pulling all that out and putting all our stuff in. Haven't heard an ETA of when that may be up and running.
I think AAs 80s are all 81s and 82s. Same airframe just different instruments and probably engines. All ours are 83s and 88s. The 82s were bumped to 83s I believe by swapping the -217s for the -219s. |
Any news from the guys that started class on Monday?
|
Heard they were pushing hard for 24, but having trouble with people canceling and declining. Curious to see how many they managed.

What were the final awards? How many TDY pilots and to where? Did anyone from a Florida base get TDY'd to the West Coast?
Management was convinced during this last TDY bid that pilots would prefer TDY... so they said if you don't want TDY then don't bid it. Guess how that turned out. I'll give you a hint... several West Coast pilots that could have held LAX didn't bid the TDY and are now forced to the East Coast for the summer. Hope their children like postcards! Welcome to the machine. |

I’m not sure about the exact numbers, if any that went east to west. Even if you are from florida, I believe there will be a day when it will be the reverse of what you see now. Just ask anyone who has been here a while. Or some combination of tdy’s in all directions. I don’t believe florida bases will be immune to personnel disruptions. Relatively speaking that has been the case recently. Once we win our injunction next month, the company is going to be hopping mad and will take out their frustration on the pilot’s wherever they can. |

And just to really make the point of how hard they tried to rig the results of the TDY bid consider this point. Management told all the pilots that if they volunteered for TDY, they could bid preference as to where they went presumably in seniority order but not likely, however, if they didn't volunteer, they would be sent wherever the company wanted to send them with no pref allowed. This was an obvious attempt at getting pilots to "volunteer" so management could back their claim in an investor meeting that, "the pilots WANT TDY, they volunteered for it", when in fact, nearly all pilots that "volunteered" for TDY only did so because they knew their seniority would likely result in TDY anyway, so they "volunteered" in a desperate attempt to at least get a TDY base within 1000 miles of home. Those that didn't volunteer were subsequently, probably intentionally (to make a point for next bid), sent all the way across the country for TDY. IWA pilots were sent to PIE instead of LAX etc. No matter what, pilots were going to get TDY'd, but the way they designed the TDY's was all an attempt to make it look like pilots want TDY and therefore, volunteered for it. Clever, except that almost no one volunteered anyway. That won't look good next time management is asked if pilots like TDY. So, they IMO, intentionally pushed pilots across the country to make it painful so that next month, they will "volunteer" and management will again, be able to back up their claim that pilots like TDY's. Behavior like this is exactly why we unionized, filed a lawsuit and an injunction.

Other than to force a TDY preference why else wouldn't you have the TDY bid choices go as follows?
-NO TDY -PIE -MYR -LAX -PGD Instead it was an all or nothing ploy to make a point without regard for anyone's family or personal life. Bid TDY and get a base. Don't bid TDY and roll the dice. Just incredible. |
On another note... we have 24 newhires and another 25 coming up next month? How does anyone know that? Not one email or correspondence from management regarding hiring. Not one single upgrade announced.
I'm no rocket scientist but 49 newhires should have 25+ upgrades. |

Makes me recall one of our managers responsible for this when he came onboard and wrote in a letter to the pilots, "family first." Yeah right.

Do they have the same problem with the Airbus sims? Any future Airbus classes scheduled?

As for Airbus classes, all I can say is: Maybe. Rumor has it the June one was cancelled. Don't know when the next one is scheduled for.

So, are these 757s an addition to our fleet and new flying, or are we turning into a leasing company?
Six 757s Financed ALLEGIANT TRAVEL COMPANY FINANCES SIX 757 AIRCRAFT LAS VEGAS. May 30, 2014 -Allegiant Travel Company (NASDAQ: ALGT) today announced that it has borrowed $40.0 million under a loan agreement with CIT secured by six 757 aircraft and twelve RB211 engines. The notes payable issued under the loan agreement bear interest at a floating rate based on London Interbank Offered Rate ("LIBOR"). The term of the loan is 48 months and the proceeds are to be used for general corporate purposes. "We are very pleased to be able to access the market at competitive rates," said Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant Travel Company President and Chief Operating Officer. "We continue to demonstrate that there is strong financing demand for used aircraft which is the life blood of our company. This transaction is also evidence of our commitment to the 757 and the positive contributions that it is making to the Allegiant fleet." |
If anything i thought you were going to let the 757 rot??
|
I think they are refinancing the current fleet of 757's, which were for sale, the last I knew.

Does anyone know if calls for interviews have stated again? Or are the simulator issues holding them back from putting more people in the pipeline?
