Default Reading List

Posted in the Major Airlines main section but figured I'd give it a shot in here for American specific recommendations. TIA.

Anyone have any good suggestions on books detailing the history of each major/legacy airline? Looking for info that might help job hunters get a good back story on what the culture, history and principles of each airline is. Perhaps provide extra ammo in an interview when the "Why us?" question is asked.

I believe SWA’s book is called “Nuts!”
And “Hand Landings” would be good for AA and UAL.

There was a book out there years ago titled "Eagle: The Story of American Airlines." It was the history of American Airlines from the early days until maybe the '80s.

It's on Amazon now.

For UPS, "Big Brown" is the one to read.

For one of the many forerunners of American, Trans World Airlines (TWA) which was the face of United States aviation on east west routes around the world in the 1950s-1970s (Pan Am was the face in Latin America), I recommend:

Trans World Airlines A Book of Memories by Jon Proctor.

+1 for “Hard Landings” you will learn about the entire industry up till the early 90’s. Great read too. Flying the line is probably great, but I’m having trouble getting into it to be honest. “Fate is the Hunter” deals with very early years and is very well written, great read.

Sky Gods is awesome too, but mainly deals with Pan Am

Sky Gods was awesome!

If you’re into history, find Splash of Colors by John Nance about the fall of Braniff. I see us falling into many of the same traps here.
