Especially if it would not only let me live in base but potentially do so with higher relative seniority.
I haven't seen anything directly from management to support this. The rumor was going strong within the PHX base as of a year ago when I was based there. I'm sure some of those guys were hearing it from higher up. I think something like 20-25% of the flights out of PHX are on the 737 and when crews time out, someone gets sick, etc. they have to bring in a reserve from DFW or LAX. We already have a crew base there, so I imagine the cost of adding a 737 base would be minimal. I doubt we will see any new bases until the mechanics are on a single contract.

The rumor mill (more like wishful thinking mill) predicts the following future categories once mx gets a contract:
ORD 320
CLT 737
PHX 737
MIA 787
BOS 320

I’ll believe it when I see it.

They definitely said the 78 will do flying out of there but they didn’t say who was going to crew it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was brewed by ORD or DFW for a while.

I fully expect to see a 78 bid in PHL on the next bid cycle.

Yeah looks like the 787 takes over some of (at least) the 767 destinations starting in 2020 out of PHL.

Thanks for the insights all. Great info. So would I be correct in saying that PHX has a better outlook than it did before? Everyone in 2016 rightfully saw the writing on the wall but now it seems like its actually in a better place to alleviate pressure on LAX? There anything else I'm missing about PHX's future prospects?

So long as lax is growth capped by gate space and space in general I think phx is safe. No where to put the flying we do from there.
