Seniority helps, as does having a trip trading group to easily launder your trips with.

The j/s was industry-leading. The j/s was weight-protected. It took a bunch of DFW/LAA morons (Hello TW) to give that away! It wAAsn't invented here!

This hustle, the one that only a small percentage of pilots actually pull off, is considered by many union reps to be the best part of our contract. They are very very proud of it because no other airline has it (APA stumblef*ked their way into it).

IMAX isn’t too complicated once you have someone who does it regularly explain how they do it. Sorta boils down to using next year’s vacation and/or hustling in two FAR MAX months, typically sometime over June/July/August, to subsequently get two months, typically across October/November/December, paid to stay home. The only flying you can do beyond the IMAX limit in IMAX limited months is premium… so either enjoy two months paid time off or make a killing (these days) with premium on top of that.

Correct. Work your butt off during the kids summer vacation and work weekends even if your senior enough not to work weekends. Also sacrifice your vacation and sick time. In exchange you can get paid time off when the kids are back in school.

Personally I’ve never done it. Mil leave makes it difficult, and I value pre-set vacation weeks. But to each their own.
Yes, it’s not THAT great of a contractual benefit, but you bet the company absolutely despises paying IMAXers two months pay to sit at home.

not sure about other major airlines, but the last place I worked at you generated an OUT time when the main cabin door was shut and the brake was dropped…you sat waiting to push for 20 mins, didn’t matter you were on the clock…IN time was when the main cabin door was open, if you sat forever waiting on a jetbridge all I did was recycle the parking brake every min….easy and fair…AA of course does it @$$ backwards.
