I’m not a huge fan of AA but….
The money will be far better here. Sit NB FO for the rest of your career. The QOL will smoke what you’ve got now.

I’m around the same age as you (OP), and was in a very similar situation. I took the job and came to AA.

Someone made a point a few posts back that AA is more likely to be around long term than your regional. I came to the same conclusion.

You will see a ton of negativity on this forum, and AA needs a new Pilot contract soon. But it’s a night and day difference between a regional and a major and it’s been totally worth it.

I believe QOL is #1 and felt that I could be very happy either way, and so could you. But I also think you’d regret not taking the chance at the end of your career.

I didn't think AA put anything towards the 401k in year one? How is your 401(k) growing ... your personal contributions?
I was a WO flow so we get contributions from day 1.

You'll get it in year 2 which is worth the pay raise.. is a good amount of cash to really think about.. especially since you'll be making 2x to 3x more than skywest in a few years. You'll be putting in almost 60k a year in your 401 in no time.. that's a real retirement.

I don’t think even the most negative AA Pilot would claim it’s worse than the regionals. AA is definitely a big step up from the regional grind. It’s just that most don’t realize that DAL/UAL are dramatically better than AA until they’ve been here a while. Then by that point they don’t want to give up 3-5 years of seniority….

I know the money is there. Second year at AA I’d make more money than my annual income at SkyWest at 20+ year pay scale … crazy.

But how’s life? How are the pairings? How many days home are you getting? Are you able to swap and drop? Happy at AA?

Id love to see some anonymous monthly schedules and parings … maybe an email or private message? I know the questions are domicile/aircraft dependent but I’d probably be placed into CLT or MIA and obviously the 737 or 320.

Thanks in advance.
Think it's been answered already. Everyone i fly with at NK says it's better than the regionals. All of them are trying to get to the legacies. So yeah. First year won't be better. But you have plenty years left

Good thoughts. Thanks for the input. )) I've made my decision (yes), now it's in AA's hands! ))

Ever since I’ve been on the 737 it has been unicorns and fairy dust. Beautiful women constantly eye me, Airbus pilots avert their eyes out of envy, I get cleared direct everywhere I go and I’ve got the muscular arms and steely eyed gaze of a Boeing long timer old school pelican.

(Then I wake up…) 😎

vitamin All joking aside… welcome to AA. You won’t regret your decision. Despite all the negativity this place is still leaps and bounds better than the regionals. 22 years here so far and have had way more fun than sorrow. Lots of stuff still needs fixing though. Overall a great group of pilots as you’ll soon find out. See ya on the line!
