Thanks, all great points. I will research all those areas further.
One more question, would commuting from San Jose up north be reasonable for the first few months (Family there we could stay with)?

Not on short call it wouldn't. Yes, AA has great SCR call out rules but if it requires you taking a flight then you are pushing it. They always like to tell you that story in INDOC of that guy from ATL who thought it was a good idea to sit SCR for Miami at home. After a few miss trips the Chief Pilot personally showed up to his door during one of his RAPs to collect his badge and Ipad.

If you're on long call, it's theoretically doable. The challenge is the fact that you have to cover three airports (LAX, SNA, ONT) and the frequency of flights especially to ONT is not great. If you're prepared to drive the 6 hours it will take to get from SJC to SNA for example, as a backup option, you could do it.
On short call? Absolutely positively not...

How is parking at LAX for employees? How much buffer do you need to catch the shuttle to the terminal for showtime? I’m a socal native so I understand how the 405 can be during rush hour.. but any other considerations for employee parking and specifically getting to terminal 4/5?

I usually walk it, averaging 15-20 minutes. Saw a homeless man attacking a city bus in front of the Hyatt the other day, but generally it’s relatively pleasant.

That’s a good way to get your steps in! I like it. Thanks.

Any forecast on when AA terminal at LAX remodel completion?

you can also obtain a SIDA badge and park in the LAX AA employee lot. This is what I do and it seems pretty convenient, the busses run often and you skip TSA all together. I allow about 15 minutes for travel from the parking lot to the terminal.
