Good to know. That is where my seniority would be if I was in LGA. I'll keep SC in my base 1 hr drive from my house.

Can't beat that. I'm a commuter, but I'd take SC all day if I lived in base.

yeah its not actually a problem now that I am beating most coverage days at the moment.

A buddy of mine on the 737 with 1 year more seniority lives in CLT, based in LGA, drops all his trips and picks up out of base.

But he's based in NY on his W2, right?

My question was related to the state tax cost of being based in NY but flying elsewhere. I think I found the answer. It seems a crew member wouldn't be taxed due to being a non resident and earning >50% of your pay outside NY.

It's federal law. NY and CA try to tax people every now and then, AA HR and APA are pretty good about setting them straight. They do have to pay a token amount of FMLA or something, but smarter people than me will transfer to the base and then go out on leave to maximize their time off and pay.

I accidentally pulled that maneuver off when I came back from furlough in New York and promptly had a baby. Worked out great
