Let me try to walk you through it .. Airline A has no widebodies. Airline B has lots of widebodies. Widebodies pay more than narrowbodies. When Airline A and Airline B merge, Airline A's pilots now gain access to higher paying jobs. If you read through the Delta NWA ISL mediation, the number of widebodies was taken into account by the arbitrators.

More widebodies at the expensive of outsourcing narrowbodies is good for no one except some yahoos that can't get hired at a real airline.

What a train wreck the U.S airline industry is. Reading this thread for 5 minutes made my head hurt. There is way too much politics and union drama in this business for the peanuts they pay.

Very true, but do you mean that it is better anywhere else? At least here there are unions to play politics with. In China you get fined for setting off a FOQUA alert. $10000 plus for an altitude bust. Europe has 900 hour a year schedules and you get paid only when you are flying. In the winter when the flights are cut your paycheck gets cut too.

We sometimes take for granted all the safeguards and work rules that have filtered down to even the smallest carriers, standards that guys bled for 75 years to get.

Looks like Parker is really pulling the stops out courting the creditors. Rumor has it chocolate and flowers arrived recently.

Considering the non-union creditors aren't impressed with managements "turn-around" plan of pulling a few seats out of 737's and strengthening the 4 cornerstones, it's going to get interesting. Also considering the across-the-board annihalation of all AA labor that's being lobbied hard by AMR, I think interest in U (for better or worse) will increase provided any deal has the language to back itself up.

Sadly, it seems the four "cornerstone" plan makes little sense as already NYC has been virtually handed over to others and is proposed to be handed over even more via code-share with JB at JFK and Eagle taking over LGA with large RJ's, while the West coast will be feasted upon by Alaska in another code-share. That leaves the 4 cornerstone plan really a wobbly 3-legged stool destined to collapse further, IMO. If anyone truly believes this Chapter 11 is anything OTHER then simply a labor-gutting, union-busting exercise, they need only compare the plan to turn AA around vs. the 1113 labor destruction appeal to judge Lane. Not sure how many pages the former describes, but the latter is a staggering, mind-altering, incomprehensible 6,500 pages.

I think the next 6-8 weeks should reveal the future of AA and what business plan takes the lead and where the employees will focus their efforts.

I can't wait to get on the US contract. Things will truly be awesome then! I just know we'll make top dollar and every job will be preserved under Parker. Yep, that's the ticket; sign me up!!

Interesting.

You seem so willing to walk directly into a sharp pilot gutting bllade whose handle insignia is well known, but are adverse to exploring what may be a better deal.

Are you sure you're an open-minded AA pilot or are you something else ?

I was fortunate enough to meet and talk to an American Employee that helped run the AAadvantage Program (American's frequent flyer program). He was saying that United and Delta were stealing all their business travelers and the only base they could strongly hold onto is MIA. He went on to say that only a few years ago New York used to be a cash cow for them and close behind was ORD and LAX.

His theory now is that they'll concentrate less on the business traveler and more on the casual flyer. "With our Oneworld advantage, we could cut our ties with JetBlue and compete directly with them, Spirit and Southwest."
