Actually, there ARE no guarantees now. Termination of the A plan is still a possibility (now or in the future) and the B-plan is proposed to be dumped into the pathetic Supersaver 401(k) which many believe to be a vehicle as much for the interests of AMR and JPM, then for those whose money is in it.
But, it's clear as a SUPPOSEDLY senior pilot whose appaears his only interest is milking out your final 5 years or so, you'd just be concerned with your situation and not the remainder of the disaster the majority will have to endure for the next 10-15 years. The pension issue, is but one issue and for those who have another 10-15 years, it's not that simple.
Yes, "getting yours" is obviously what you're about as who cares about what's in your rear-view mirror ?
This forum doesn't have any impact anyway. What has the impact is what's happening and believed among those on the line and within the APA and from that standpoint, IMO you have little sympathy.
IMO, Horton won't have a "healthy company" as he will have hopelessly poisoned the well in a service-oriented business. Additionally, it appears the media, analysts and a growing number of creditors are angling toward what the employees already know, that the plan so far doesn't address AMR's PRIMARY problem, that of revenue generation. AMR is simply on a scortched-earth game plan of labor-cost decimation and union busting.
6,500 pages of labor cost complaints is all I've seen. If you want to have an impact, why don't you tell your bosses to actually negotiate as per the chapter 11/1113 provisions, instead of embracing their "take-it-orleave-it" attitude ?
After all, considering that 1113 which is WAY over-reaching, it's looking more and more likely not only the pilots, but all of labor is in fact, going to heed AMR and leave it.
Don't worry.........I doubt you'll be displaced to Philly.

So be it!
Your's also seem to be a devide and devide strategy. I'll make no apologies for my level of seniority, although, it isn't that senior. Additionally, the point at which I retire is clearly a personal one! I have thoroughly enjoyed every part of my career up to now and will continue to do so for possibly the next 10 years.
If it turns out the we enter into a merger, I'll continue to give my all no matter whoever is at the helm.
Joy, peace and contentment are internal constructs!

Maybe you just relish attacking those that don't share your personal take on things!
So be it!

Who cares what the paint says ?
Many are already resigned to the fact that the once great name of "American Airlines" has been destoyed anyway. In fact, even if AMR retains control and/or the American Airlines name survives, in Horton's plan it's likely to be small letters by the front of the lower fuselage preceded by "operated by". "One World" would be the brand name with a stable of carriers, both domestically and internationally.
Joy, peace and contentment are also states of existance that sometimes have to defended. I think that's what's happening now. It's clear to me anyway, that as it stands there has been very little of those ideals anywhere around here for at least the last decade, with the exception of certain executives with ca$h-stuffed pockets. Certainly not among the employees or shareholders.

Interesting Article: US Airways Has Labor Backing for AMR Takeover: Sources - TheStreet
Apparently Parker has 3 unions support and will save jobs. Greasing the Washington politicians as well. Best of luck to AMR folks.

I can't stop but laugh at this from the article ...
Meanwhile, AMR was on the offensive against a takeover bid on Thursday, as it released first-quarter earnings that showed its first-quarter passenger revenue per available seat mile rose 10.3%, ahead of both US Airways at 8.4% and United Continental (UAL_) at 5.2%. Delta (DAL_) PRASM rose 13.5%, the carrier said.
What a bunch of idiots over at AMR.

You're right though, we'll all ride Doug and the US leadership team coattails to airline victory! I can't wait.

AMR keeps losing money, yet it's cash has significantly increased. Now, they need to look good to defend their performance, so just before they go for massive employee gutting and the new possibility they'll be dispatched back to the Wharton handball courts because of lack of revenue performance, they produce this.
Anything can be claimed with creative accounting and performance.
