This is how I feel when I hear people talking about this subject:

They took errr jerrbs is related to outsourcing whereas the discussion at hand is that old timers won't retire to let a new workforce in.

I'm a fiscal conservative who has voted Democrat the past 2 presidential elections because I can't stand the Tea Party. Above all, I believe in Capitalism and the fact that wealth shouldn't be shared, but given to those who earn it. I would never support a law that was designed to have wealthier people have to retire from their jobs so that poorer people could be entitled to their share of the wealth.

Get rid of the age restriction all together. If you can hold a first class medical, then you should be legal to fly. If you don't believe a first class medical is stringent enough, then up the standards.
This is the only career I can think of where there is blatant age discrimination. For the record, I adequately planned for retirement and plan to retire between 55 and 60, but I cannot stand that some of my friends are being forced out.

We fly 2 pilot aircraft. It's very rare for a pilot to croak on the flight deck, but when it does happen, you have a second pilot who is fully capable of safely landing an airplane. This has happened on a few occasions. Has there ever been a case where a pilot medical issue has caused an accident on a 2 pilot aircraft? So why is this even an issue in the first place.
Nope. I believe in judging a pilot not by his age but by his capability to safely fly an airplane.
Not true at all. An age 55 rule would be best for me, because that is when I plan on retiring, and that rule would force a bunch of people above me out. But I don't want that. It's not about doing what's best for me. It's about doing what's right.

In other words, pull up the ladder I got mine....

GW certainly was no spendthrift but the current administration takes the cake for out of control spending.
On topic, as many have alluded to, there are many careers that have age limits. Even my job in the reserves will one day force me to hang up my flight suit.
But, I really don't think I WANT to be working a real job when I'm 66...

In a presidential election, sometimes you have to pick the lesser of two evils, and unfortunately, the Tea Party scares the absolute crap out of me. That and the fact that most Republicans are against gay marriage. Talk about discrimination. Imagine how stupid those congressmen will look in 40 years. For the record, i'm happily married with 2 kids.

Furthermore, if you eliminate mandatory retirement ages from this profession, you're going to have to eliminate the seniority system or.. alter it dramatically.

Ha!
That got everybody's attention, didn't it?
But before everyone under 55 has an aneurysm, here's what I'm referring to:
I have heard that there are conversations being held about granting relief to the restriction that at least one pilot on an international flight be under age 60. That is, airlines would be able to schedule a captain and a first officer who are both 60 or older on an international flight, which they cannot do now.
Has anybody else heard or read anything recently on this subject?
