American interviews and class dates

TOGAANG,
Take the other interview! Get a bird in hand.
Maverick,
Apply here and all the other legacies! I don't think it's worth standing by and watching the bow wave get surfed by other new hires.
I really wanted to go to United (I live in DEN) and didn't want to go to AA or LUS at all. Hell, I had people tell me I was crazy to apply to either job. I applied everywhere that was hiring though, because I needed to get a job. U.S. airways called first and by the time United called (over a year later) I felt like this was the best place for me now for a variety of reasons. My point is things change and sometimes you have to go with the flow and adapt your game plan.
Yes, I now have to commute...big deal, I've embraced it and stayed positive about it. Really doesn't bother me.

It's not about rocket science and astronaut abilities. All management cares about is that we don't crash the jet, and you're right - just about everyone fits that description. But as someone that has to spend four days trapped in a cockpit with some of these guys, my definition of "highly qualified" is substantially different.
But a deal is a deal, and nobody asked me anyway.

Had an AE j/s'er a year ago. He was waiting on his flow date. I told him he'd been a go getter his entire career so why wasn't he trying to get hired OTS?
This spring I'm on the j/s. New FO, former AE. 'Jumped the list' by getting hired OTS instead of waiting for his flow date. Turns out the j/s'er I'd had a year prior was a buddy of his. He took my advice and ended up getting hired last fall instead of being at AE still waiting for his flow date.
Another AE FO on the j/s this spring. ANG/AE, got hired OTS.
They WILL hire AE guys OTS. The other two guys were a prior union rep and current CKA. Strong resumes helped them.

And this isn't meant to crap on flows. I know there are plenty that are friggin' awesome. It's just that in one situation you're grabbing everyone from across the entire width of the bell curve, and in the other you're making an effort to pull from (hopefully) the right hand side of it.
But yeah, if regional pilots are all the same (as management believes), there's not much sense in wasting time and resources on interviewing.

Maverick,
I too started my flying career in 2000 and wanted to be an AA or Delta pilot growing up in DFW. However, I chose to go the military route to get my experience and then jump later. I'm sure I have paid my dues as well, just in different ways, Iraq/Afgan etc.
We ALL mil and civilian pay our dues early on in some way or another, so sorry if me saying 7-9 months seems like an awful long time to wait in a pool with no update.
Best of luck to you and I hope you get hired very soon.
Cheers

Are we really going to turn this into a flow vs. OTS, RJ vs. military, work work work work work thread??
How about keeping it to info about interviews, class dates and such?? Just a thought...

TOGAANG (and everybody else) - good luck, we all hope you get onboard soon. (But never turn down another interview, bro. Get on the escalator somewhere!) To all the "quit complaining" posters -- chill. This is the interview and class date thread. If you're on here, it should be to help pass good gouge to the fellas waiting in line. And 7 months with good communication and hand-holding from the company would be one thing; the foul is to keep them in the dark. Our job is to gather intel every time we go thru Dallas or talk to a management type and try to give these guys & gals as accurate info as we can.
