USAir pilots let your reps know...
You don't want the AA reserve system. It is broken. It is a leveling system that never works. Too many flaws.
Traditionally i've liked reserve in that we can pass trips until everyone in our group has flown, then you can pick your trip if multiple trips are available.
Now that we have Int'l RAP's reserve availability periods, it's difficult at best to get a trip you want.
Here's where i am, our contracts have always sucked when compared to DAL or UAL. We give way too much productivity and loopholes for AA to use against us.
We have people that strategically each month throw 1 PVD in the middle of a week of reserve. Then they cannot be used.
Is it time? DAL contract. Xerox the whole thing.
What do the USAir guys think?
I've read through the DAL contract, to me it's hands down superior to AA's.
Thanks.

I certainly fear your system, the US Airways system is flawed but I'd much rather live under our current system than what I understand AA's to be.
Does anybody have any bead on what we are leaning towards in teh JCBA meetings?

The APA officers don't have to live under the guillotine of AA reserve life, so I'm not optimistic about meaningful changes to any future reserve system. At AA, reserve pilots have fairly little control of their lives outside of DFP's and that's exactly how the company likes it.

Nope ours is "suckier" at AA
At Delta are you on reserve for up to 22 days in a row? Happened to me 3 times in 2013. They will hope you get a (old contract) 24 off in 7 in a foreign city or Cleveland. At the last moment they will use one of your moveable days off to fix a (24) 30 in 7.
At AA = Yes, they do not fix how bids come together. Your 30 off in 7 can be in a foreign or out station. Enjoy!
We just got pay protection in 2013. We never had it before. Only last trip in the last 7 days of month, and then only "maybe"
The ONLY things AA ever had was a cough cough supposedly industry best retirement now average. And ability to pick of multiple trips on reserve or possibly pass.
I'm just saying ahem USAir guys AA reserve system is broken.
Another tidbit. If your reserve assignment cancels at the airport before the first leg. You would normally get credit for 2 hours call out. But, not if the tip is a computer generated replacement pairing. Then you get nothing.
At AA line holders vacation 3:40 day. Reserves charged 4:03 a day.
If you need a PVD (personal vacation day) on reserve. CS will only award it to you (if at all) at noon the day before.
You could call your local flight office and request a PVD in advance. They then call it an EO Emergency Off. You will have to beg, you will have to have an excellent reason. And then they will make you know that THEY are doing you a favor.
Last month I filled out a P2 report. They jumped all over me for filling one out! That is a Captains tool they told me. I loved that it made them so mad. Nice!
Since it's inception APA has had significantly unworthy contracts compared to UAL and DAL.
This is my 4th reserve system at AA.
Last week a buddy of mine signed in at 1055am for a daytrime MIA GRU (Sao Paulo) 8:20 flight.
Rolling delays at 5pm FA's MOD takes them off trip. The CA and FO are removed. The FO gets a Missed trip for sitting on the airplane for 6 hours. Thank you. THe removal code for the CA was Medical Incontinence. ? Wow.
My buddy the FB wanted to stay on the trip. THey call out a whole new crew. Sched did not know when the FB would expire. They were torn between contract and FARs. WoW. They didn't know.
They departed at 9:46 pm. He'd been on the airplane ALL day. They arrived GRU at 6am MIA time.
FAR's 3 man crew 21 hours.
This week APA decided to have a Reserve group study. I did volunteer for this. They said they'd put my name in the hat.
USAir pilots tell your Reps you do not want AA reserve system.
In a perfect world we could all come together on our JCBA and take the best of USAir and the (there is none at AA) the _______ of AA
This is why I say, maybe it's time one contract for Majors. Instead of reinventing the wheel with APA every 3 years and then watch AA laugh at us with loopholes that a A380 coudl taxi through.

DAL everyone starts out on long call = better (US about half and half). DAL can only transition you to short call x amount of days without paying you = better (US unlimited). 12 hour call out on long call = better (US 10 hours).
We (US Airways) get deadhead legs paid over guarantee as a reservist. Not sure if it's going to stick around or not. Also I've never seen a stretch of reserve longer than 6 days, that may be better.
