Exactly. I'm not a hat fan, but I get the professionalism argument. It is, interestingly enough, very unprofessional to wear a hat indoors (similar to sunglasses indoors or at night haha). I'm actually surprised DAL with their huge military influence hasn't killed the hats inside thing.

I cannot believe it took nine pages for someone to finally bring this up. 1000000% agree. What looks less professional: me not wearing my hat or the CA who just chastised me for not wearing my hat who can barely fit through the flight deck door (but still took his 17g/fat cookie upon check-in at a Doubletree)???

Wearing a hat makes you taller and thus appear thinner.... Just look at how thin Abe Lincoln looked... Agree some guys are beyond hiding under even the tallest of hats!

Sully wore a cover after ditching... "Like a boss."

The decision for AAL to require covers was made long ago, and they'll be paying us more than enough to wear them!

Let's make a deal: We'll wear hats if flight attendants have to pass a yearly weight and mental health exam, and put pilots in charge of f/a hiring!

A perfect picture to prove the wearing of a cap doesn't necessarily guarantee a professional appearance. The poor guy is clueless that his poorly tied neck-tie cancels out the glorified inverted cereal bowl on his head (slightly off center, to boot).

Perhaps along with hats, AA will include demonstrating Windsor knot proficiency at some point during the R9 to give the presence of the hat some rational foundation ?

I suppose 25 push-ups also couldn't hurt.

When I flew with Sully(pre-1549) he did not wear his hat and he did not "make bank." What he did do was to wear the required uniform that was clean, neat and always presented a professional appearance, even without a hat. There are many that look unprofessional around here even with a hat because of the appearance of the total uniform. I think a professional appearance can be pulled off with or without a hat, but it takes enforcement of standards.

I think this decision is out of our hands and I will comply with the uniform requirements.

I always thought that it was funny that the union negotiated away hats and in the leather jacket, but whenever they want us to look professional for a camera they ask for...no leather jacket and hats to be worn.

Why are you always picking on pilots younger than you Eagle.

Where did age come in to your latest erroneous assessment ?

I don't recall discussing age. I DO recall noting the picture of a pilot (more likely an ad model) whose uniform had several noticeable flaws. Perhaps what you think you're seeing are your own flaws in perception ?

You did mention 'double windsor', therefore age = old.
