There's your problem

I call B.S. on this one. Most other airlines handle this with no trouble, but there is a culture problem at AA as regards gate agents. They seem to feel JS privileges are an annoyance not worth considering, and that can not be undone easily.

Again, get a union that, although not perfect, works at a national level, and not an individual company level.

I hate to resurrect this thread yet again, but I keep hearing that a hybrid reservation system is coming. It appears like TW cannot leave this alone and must force his way on everybody.

So... total bs or s going to hit the fan?

The BOD keeps pushing for this (aside from MIA's failed attempt at getting a straight seniority system). However, the latest from the Company (per the BOD webcast) was "Uh, we're not sure we can make this work guys." In Doug-speak: It ain't changing. Pilots can get to work reliably and we're not spending any more money.

The problem with the hybrid method is that it becomes a logistical nightmare, we'll have to create new rules for different scenarios and try to automate it as well. Is there a blackout period so that someone bumped at the last minute by a senior pilot can then rebook on another earlier or later flight? What happens if you're bumped at the last minute, the system switches to jungle rules and then a junior guy gets the next flight jumpseat? Shouldn't there also be a period for those bumped to extract their seniority revenge on the earlier or later flights? What happens when you're bumped, does the reservation get deleted or do you roll over to the next flight? It can't be a roll over because who knows what you're schedule is. Should we bid for the jumpseat for multiple flights in one ballot so that we can see what we can hold at the end of the seniority process? If you roll over to the next flight what happens to the cascading bumps? We can't even figure out how to f'ing go from alternate to primary on one locator record, you think we'll be able to figure this out without major union in-fighting? Please. These d!cks can't even agree to free money in the form of profit sharing.

All FAA jumpseat riders have to be on some form of official duty. They can bump any pilot anytime. The best solution is what we did at Delta. If you have a jumpseat reservation to work and a Fed takes the seat you get positive space in back even if it requires bumping a revenue passenger.

Off topic. I heard he sued APA to prevent electronic voting.

I hate to say it, but this post just cheered me up. Thanks!
