and so is making yourself stand out from the thousands of other generic applications.
If they wanted it, they would ask for it. If it was a useful optional item, everybody else would be doing it. You're asking for questions and not listening to the answers. As far as how they decide who gets called over others, anybody who is not on the hiring board is just taking an educated guess. My personal opinion is that there is some sort of algorithm that scores your accomplishments and elevates certain profiles so that the actual resume is read by a human. There's no telling how much weight is given to something like Instructor Hours versus attending WIA, but I'd wager money that the font and cover letter on your resume don't mean jack. |

Maybe not, and I guess you have it figured out since it appears you work at AA. Would it honestly be negative points though?
If they don't ask for it, don't do it. It's pretty simple. Remember, your app is screened by a computer and an HR company first. They are sifting through thousands of applicants. You will get the call if your app meets whatever wickets they've set up. It is not like a corporate gig where a chief pilot is manually scoring each app. |

I don't know about negative points, but I have a feeling it would either go straight to the shredder or not even be looked at.

Does it help? Probably not, does it hurt? Probably not. I'm old school, I've written a cover letter for every job I've ever applied to. I also refuse to use a resume longer than 1 page. With the airlines, I didn't submit the letter with my app, but had a custom letter for every airline at the job fairs I attended. I also printed one up to turn in with the rest of my stuff at US Airways. It was not required. The guy I gave it to, read it, and it sparked a conversation for what that's worth. I'm not familiar with AA's hiring though. |

I'm not familiar with AA's hiring though. On the day of the interview, all they want to see is the specific list of items they ask for. I had an entire binder made to give to them (including an updated resume) and they didn't want it. They just want exactly what they ask you to bring nothing more or less It's not over-thinking, just following directions. Do what they say. It's not hard. |
...and for the face to face portion itself they didn't allow me to bring anything with me so anything I brought was left behind I the waiting area. Only thing they had on the table when it was my turn was my logbooks. Great process overall!

Apply to Emirates and Etihad,
Fill out the application, get your paperwork together, practice interviewing with them and then say thanks, but no thanks. You will then be 100% ready for every US Airline interview after that. ;) |

Yikes! That does sound like a hard interview.
I can't post what I was thinking when I heard that question. |
