I am a recent hire (just finished training) and am not aware of any Southern pilot on furlough; looks like they did back in 2009 though. I have heard that those who did not or could not make the jump from FE to FO were unfortunately let go when the 747-200 went away. There might be some Atlas and Southern folks on some sort of voluntary leave, but I don't think Atlas has furloughed either since the early 2000s (quick google search, could be wrong). There were some rumors that the company might do so if they couldn't staff the 737 (seemed to be what they hung out to dry when they couldn't staff things) over the last couple years as a bargaining tactic, but a lack of pilots is no longer an issue at 5Y/9S so I'd expect that rumor to be put to bed.

Atlas furloughed pilots in 2009. However the question is would Atlas hire pilots furloughed from another airline. Given that there are plenty of pilots with no airline to return to I don’t see them hiring furloughed major carrier pilots. Furloughed regional pilots are probably a difference story. A furloughed regional pilot could make the case during their interview that they were ready to move on and see the world.

I have a well qualified buddy whose application was just rejected, and he wasn’t even furloughed. Also seeing an uptick in former military heavy guys showing up on the line. It seems we are returning to historical norms with the hiring, as in nobody can figure out what the h#ll they are looking for.

Where are new hires based for Atlas? I’m hearing PANC.
Any new hires get MIA?

74 new hires typically get ANC. MIA is insanely senior. 76 new hires have been getting CVG. Last year they were all getting ONT though. Wouldn’t shock me if it goes back to that at some point.

I know a 777 class just started this week (Monday). Any idea when the 777 classes typically run? One month apart, or only once one class is through do they put another class on? Treading water here - got the good news email (after interview) on 07/30. Am wondering typically how long I'd have to wait for a 777 class.

At least one every month.

So the class that started this Monday could be one of a few 777 classes that could be running simultaneously??

Classes of the same airframe are typically 3 weeks apart.

I have heard that currently a new 777 class starts roughly every 3 weeks with 8 new FO's. There should be another 777 class start on 9-14.
Does anyone have a rough idea on how many people are in the pool, and if anyone has gotten a class out of the pool how long it was from interview to class date?
