He screwed up.. that we know. He also submitted his self to the Lord. Don’t confuse the two! We all suffer consequences of our actions. All we can do is grow in them and ask for forgiveness. Some times we don't get a mulligan.
For the ones angery at the “boogie man” in the sky.. ask yourself, why does it bother you someone invokes the name of the Lord?
I don't think anyone really cares, it's just a ridiculous concept and the root cause of much global misery and embarrassment. I don't care where Aska went or who he is with, he's done killing people.

I don’t supposed anyone wants to talk about the training department that pushed this guy through. There should be a lot of accountability IMO.

There should be. The opportunity for that was lost, though.

You're only qualified to be a jackass, apparently.

“We should all bear one thing in mind when we talk about a troop that rode one in. He called upon the sum of all his knowledge and made a judgement. He believed in it so strongly that he knowingly bet his life on it. The fact that he was mistaken in his judgement is a tragedy, not stupidity. Every supervisor and contemporary who ever spoke to him had an opportunity to influence his judgement. So a little bit of all of us goes in with every troop we lose.”

Sorry, but you can’t teach judgement or situational awareness. You either have it or you don’t. Sure, you can improve on both with experience but it can’t be taught. Some people are not cut out to fly planes. This guy was one of them and the system failed to weed him out.

He’s not the first and won’t be the last. If you’ve spent any descent amount of time instructing and/or checking then you know this is true. The hard part of either job is to have the balls to pull the plug.

Yeah I know. Those aren’t my words. Thought it would point out.....that the man had encountered enough people on his journey....someone should have helped him to find a new line of work.
