I believe your retirement is better than theirs over time...

I was actually surprised the split between 767 and 747 rates were as small as they were. We had all been told to expect more, but I was expecting more with much greater differences in pay between fleets.

At least there's less incentive to jump from a fleet you like.

If you upgrade at Atlas and get 1000 hours PIC you'll get an email from FedEx or a call from UPS... The problem is that I bet the Captains stop leaving and upgrade times go up. It's a bigger financial hit to leave Atlas on October 1st than it was September 1st. I'm not sure a 747 Captain would ever get their money back but if they did it'd be 10 years or more down the road. It's about 4 years to see a 757 CA check at FedEx right now, so a 747 CA won't start catching up until upgrading given that your rates are going to $330 an hour in 4 years. The first year is a $170k hit by my calculations. FedEx will have a new contract by year 4 and will get another raise though... I will say this though... Quality of life and retirement are better day one for CAs who do choose to leave. The time with my wife and kids is extremely valuable.

I'm very interested in seeing what attrition looks like at Atlas next year but there's no way I'd go there without 1000 PIC because you'll be trapped. Leave yourself an out because you may want it.

Kalitta has a better retirement. If you have a mil retirement this place may be better. Eye of the beholder.

You’re totally right, better to just keep complaining and feeling sorry for yourself. I understand when people leave, and I understand when people stay... but the constant whining about a job YOU CHOSE is hard to understand.

You’re making two incorrect assumptions simultaneously. See if you can put on your thinking cap and figure out what they are…

We will? We've got some young, check airmen that need a call then. They are still un-jaded in their approach, and it would be a shame to see them miss their shot at a fat, FedEx pension.

They work 16 days including travel. Including travel most Atlas pilots work 18-19 days actually. Maybe more for split patterns.

I don’t count commute/ travel days as work days as that is relative to where one is based and where one lives.
