It's all going to depend where you are commuting from. I commute from ORD to ANC and have only had one time when I had to go out more than one day early before a trip. That was because it was right after the holiday and the flight I wanted the day before was sold out. I always have to go out at least one night before. Most of the time I've had direct flights, but there weren't any this month and don't appear to be any next month. Even going through DEN, SEA, or MSP I've only had to go out the night before.

On the back side, almost all of my trips finish early local time in ANC (around midnight, a little before or a little after), so I'm able to get back home by mid day on my last work day.

For new-hires going forward, I would plan on going to the 767, which is $78.04/hr first year (50 hour min), and $83.94/hr second year (62 hour min, DOS+4).

The big hourly rate bumps most new-hires have been enjoying between first and second year pay will likely be going away with the majority of the hiring starting to go to the 767. It's a 3 year equipment lock, so be prepared.

To the poster on the last page commenting about $45k/year to fly a 747/767: You're right, but that figure also includes $1600/mo in training pay until the completion of IOE. It's not the full story.

Alaska is but apparently according to customs Miami is not part of the US. We always have to clear customs when flying ANC-MIA. When asked about it they have no good reason. It truly is another country down there. :D

That is absurd. Has anyone simply refused? What are they going to do, not let you into the country you never left? Detain you? I'm curious.

I have ferried empty ORD-MIA and the plane had been sitting in ORD more than a day. Still had to clear customs in MIA. I think they are just justifying the staffing level at the GAC North ramp Customs office.

I saw a Captain get really ****ed and threaten not to comply, but what are you really going to do? You're forced to go through customs twice!

Just when I think I've heard it all. That is quite interesting. So I'm assuming if you came from Puerto Rico you'd have to do the same. :confused:

Another reason to get Worldwide Gateway Basing (no Pilot Bases...EVERYONE has a Gateway, and that Gateway is your BASE) in the next contract.

Starting pay is lower than normal everywhere. I think at US Airways it is still less than $30K the first year.
