I can narrow that down some. I've seen one other airline for 14 years before it evaporated and this place wins hands down. As for the possibilities mentioned, Fresno to Reno to Oakland to Phoenix compared with Frankfurt to Dubai to Hong Kong to Sydney...not even close. The other freighter outfits, maybe but probably not. I'm happy here and plan to hang my hat on this peg for the 8 1/2 years I have left!

Why did you look to leave WN? I though they treated their people pretty well. Granted flying to back and forth across the US is not what Im looking for so I don't blame you but I thought that most people are happy there.

I know of 1 guy who interviewed on the 18th of January who got a call last Friday for a Feb 28th class. He was one of the military guys that interviewed. Haven't heard of any other January interviews getting a class. Hopefully we all get called next week. Fingers crossed.

Shame, there's A LOT of people out there that have no desire and just want to work at Atlas.

I never thought I'd see a brand U or brand F guy on an Atlas forum trying to justify his existence. Haha.

Just like guys from the Legacy carriers calling on me for recommendation to come interview with Atlas...never thought that would happen.

We are not the scumbag, freight-dawgs anymore, are we? Well, maybe a little!!

If I were a new hire based in JFK, would it be possible to break up my 17 days of reserve, or is it solid block? ie a block of 8 and 9 days on or a block of 6, 6, and 5? Or even ridiculously... 2,2,2,2,2,2,2,3?

The last choice you gave...not a snowball's chance in you know where. And if that is the schedule you absolutely have to have...Atlas is not the job for you. It is that simple. Sorry, but that is a fact.

All the rest of the choices above are possible and even likely if that is what you bid...but only after a year or two of seniority -- after some new hires come on board after you, and a few retirements.

But the thing to do is to put up with the bad schedules if this is the job you want...don't just look at the today, and tomorrow. Take a longer view of this job, this lifestyle, and this company.

If you can answer all those questions to your (and your family's) satisfaction, then go ahead and apply for the job.

And by the way, don't forget to read the previous 120 pages...scattered among those pages are some gems of information that might help with the decision.

Good luck...

So I get the fact that they basically build lines to 17 days of availability, what about on 31 day months? Also, while I've read they can extend you past 17 days for more $$ when you bid can you choose "holy" days off if there is a day you must have off (and you have the seniority)?

Finally, does living near the domicile, like HSV, give you more flexibility to bid maybe an 8+9 schedule, as you have less possible taxable deadhead events?

Thanks!

We owe the company 17 days per month...therefore, we get 13 days off in a 30-day month, and 14 days off in a 31-day month. Because February only has 28 (and 29 in a leap year), they rob 1/31 and 3/1 and make January, February, and March, 30-day months.

There is no such luxury as "holy days"...you just have to bid it off and hope you get it.

Living near a base is obviously the ideal situation for us, but that does not necessarily give you any rights over scheduling and bidding, since seniority is the governing factor here. It is your choice to commute to a base, and it is your choice to live near a base. If your seniority can hold a line, a reserve block, and the "x" days that you want...then that is what you get.
