Atlas Air Hiring
#181
We've had OUR airplanes in customer livery for many years. Some of them you might have seen (over Atlas' history) but not realized were actually Atlas airplanes include:
British Airways
China Airlines
Thai
Emirates
Alitalia
Scandinavian
In each case above, the airplanes were owned, registered, and operated by Atlas Air and pilots (and FE's on the 200s) on the Atlas Air seniority list.
Other customers that we fly for are ok with the Atlas livery and their cargo on our airplanes.
That includes using their traffic rights, landing slots, and even their callsigns...
For those of you that look down on such things, just take a look out of the window of any major (legacy) airline and you'll see a Regional Jet painted in the livery of the contracting carrier...but operated by someone else. It is no different for Atlas.

Not sure if I touched a nerve there or what. Maybe my imagination. No "looking down" coming from me on this issue. How someone paints their aircraft isn't my bidness or concern. Just pure curiosity. Thanks for the info.

I've had some pushback over the years about that and maybe I'm a little sensitive about the topic. My intention was only to inform, as it has been since this thread started.
This thread is after all is intended for those that are looking to move on to other jobs, and in particular, are considering Atlas as that next step.
Sorry, if I stepped on any toes...

Atlas's founder found a niche suppyling freighter lift to passenger airlines. I've heard QUANTAS management was able to show their pilots it was cheaper to sub out their cargo flights, thus making QUANTAS stronger which was better for them in the long run. England changed their rules and brought the BA flying to "G" aircraft, and we don't want to open that thread. There's always going to be someone looking for lift and it's going to be more and more in the developing world. The down side is, if the economy slumps or the airline decides it doesn't want to be in the freight market anymore, "See Ya."
You get in an Atlas cookpit, not only do you see post-it notes with the flight number but also with which airline we are today.

I just spoke to a new hire in class right now...he said that there will be no new classes until 1Q2011.
Atlas does not normally do new hire (or even recurrent) training in the 4th Quarter. Flight Ops management wants/needs all check airmen flying the line during the peak cargo season.
I'm sure we'll will resume new classes in January and (I'm guessing here) they'll start making phone calls/interviews in late December to fill the classes.
Good luck...I'll keep you guys posted if I hear anything more.

Buddy got a call today and was invited to take the online test, and was told potential interview dates in Sep. There is still a class starting on 30 Aug, but unknown after that when the next new hire class will be....
