reading from other guys, it seems they were given the link for an online test during their phone interview.

Anyone know the answer to this?

Perhaps a new test is being written, and you are the guinea pig. (sarcasm). Good Luck let us know how things unfold.

The call sign was cutout, but I sure hope thats for me!

I would gladly be the guinea pig for a new test, or any version of the old. I really appreciate the encouraging words gearcrankr, and will give position reports for any waypoints cleared to.

For now it is gate hold and awaiting a call back from clearance... ;)

Questions look familiar, but there are a few that I'm sure I DIDN'T get (5 days ago), so maybe they already have a bank of more than 50 questions that the test pulls from? That should more than spell out where to target any studying though.

If this is the guy I think it is, check your "pipe" PM's. But I think you answered it here.

Talon1011 12-04-2010 09:20 AM

My understanding is that there is indeed a large bank of questions and the test rotates among them. One commonality between exams seems to be that the thing is weighted heavily toward esoteric weather questions. It was for mine and has been for most of the folks with which I've spoken since. It's good to have access to METAR and TAF codes available. Also, spend some time on the more obscure markings on the high level prog charts.

See you on line soon!

Silly question.

For those that are continually updating, are you sending a cover letter? Or "following directions" and just sending the question form and the resume sans cover letter?

Thanks

Resume and PQF thats it. How often do you update? Never had much luck with cover letters.

Whale Driver 12-07-2010 01:46 PM

Follow the rules to the letter. Period.

Apparently, not enough. But I'm stepping up my game.

That was kind of what I was alluding to when I mentioned "following directions". They want the PAQ/resume, nothing more and nothing less. So that's what I sent. Besides, I'm sure that they are getting bombarded with PAQ's/resumes and don't have time/patience to read CL's, etc.

I attached them as 2 separate PDFs. Is that ok?

Man I hope so, that's what I did;

email it, along with your resume, as attachents
I assume the "s" designated more than one attachment.

This is starting to sound a bit childish, not calling qualified people because they sent a cover letter??? Really? Are they this anal about everything?

So, how is that any different than a 19-year old college intern "screening" applicants at all the "legacy" carriers in the early 90s. I personally know several of these interns that did this...

If they want it on pink, purple, or black, or white, or green paper...just play their game and get yourself in the door.

That is if you want the job...or at least the interview.

Sorry to be a little harsh here, but it is a buyer's market. Atlas (and others) are in the driver's seat. They are able to set the guidelines and requirements that might seem arbitrary and archaic, but I'm not sure you have a choice here...

Good luck...

For those of you interested/interviewing, pay the $10 and get a lifetime membership to this pro pilot world website as it will also be the behind the curtain Atlas forum for crap slinging and latest company rumors. This link has a lot of feedback from interviews earlier this year.......Good times! even though it is titled recalls it morphed into a hodge podge of interview gouge and company hiring practices with notifications of yeah or neah.

The latest juju from ************* website......I've been in the school house all week and things are buzzing loudly. Fleet manager (who is nameless since this is a repost) told us that we are leasing a UAL744 immediately for additional passengar work. It comes on the property Jan7 to go into the paint shop (atlas blue colors). N194UA. He also said the LCF is understaffed and we are upgrading and hiring to be ready for a fully ramped up LCF operation. He alluded to a couple more pax -400s in the works. Atlas is searching for planes to acquire (hence the lease of N194UA as a stop gap while acquiring our own). And his words, "light twin operation went from stove to back burner to freezer but now into the microwave. Lots and lots of new hires in 2011...making 2010 pale by comparison". Lots of positive comments and up-beat attitudes in the schoolhouse.

Maxcackel 12-09-2010 07:55 AM

Light Twin??? Please elaborate.

Whew, had me going. I thought you were going to say new crj/erj feeder program.

Moondog 12-09-2010 11:09 AM

I think that was on the "inside" Atlas thread that we can't see, but maybe not. Maybe I just overlooked it, either way, I like the way it sounds!!

Whaledriver 12-09-2010 11:33 AM

Moondog,
Yes, it was in the Altas room.

Thanks for the schoolhouse update. Couple of Q's if you dont mind.
1. Does Atlas operate -200's?
2. If so, do they have SO's or PFE's?

DASH8AV8R 12-09-2010 11:50 AM

Atlas Air - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

744driver 12-09-2010 11:52 AM

We currently operate...

Classics...6 aircraft total
5 B747-200s, 1 B747-300

400s...18 aircraft total
1 Passenger B747-400 (and 1 as a back-up aircraft) in/out of IAH
4 B747-400LCF (Large Cargo Freighter, for Boeing's 787 production logistics)
1 B747-400BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter)
12 B747-400F's (Original freighters from the factory)

And we employ PFE's, not SO's.

Maxcackel 12-09-2010 12:18 PM

Sorry, trying to get all the lingo down. What is LCF? Thanks

DASH8AV8R 12-09-2010 12:21 PM

So how's the whoooolle Polar/Atlas, Atlas/Polar deal coming along? Have the groups been combined with a new CBA or are they still being run separately?

744driver 12-09-2010 03:06 PM

We have an arbitrated combined Seniority List but it can't take effect until we have a combined CBA.

All but 1 major section (Scope) and 2 subsections remain open...and both parties are presenting their arguments to an arbitrator this week.

As for when we can expect to have a TA'ed or Arbitrated combined CBA...who knows?

744Driver, I have seen you guys taking off from HKG on many ocassions with 747's, any info on jumpseating to the U.S. with you guys from there, maybe upper deck seats, for a FEDEX guy wanting to get back stateside?

longhauler 12-10-2010 05:22 AM

kalitta will take you. Usually ANC then to ORD, CVG, LAX, LCK. Schedule on the website.
N740, 741, 742, 743, 744, and soon 745 are BCF 400's nicer ride.

We can take you too.

Go to our main web page
Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings

Click on Atlas Air Inc 747 picture, left side, about half way down. Then.

About mid page on right side you will see contact us with multiple items. Select Jump Seat and Courier

You should be good to go from there.

CloudSailor 12-10-2010 06:57 AM

Don't mean to de-rail the thread. But I guess I will anyway :p

Why is international off-line jumpseat allowed on Kalitta and Atlas, but not on FedEx and UPS?

Just curious.

It is a FedEx corporate policy. You would have to ask them.

CASS approved crew members can jump with us. The only problem jumping freight is that the logistics of actually getting to the plane can be more complicated. I can't tell you how to hook up with the crew because it varies so much from place to place.

CloudSailor 12-10-2010 07:41 AM

Thanks. That makes sense.
