Atlas Air Hiring
#1801
I want to echo DoomedTX's comment. I have been a long time lurker, reading the threads, and the information put out. Pretty much the same situation Doomed is in, I am looking at retirement in 14 months, with a 6 month deployment to the desert right before I can retire at 21 years (I took the bonus, seemed like a smart idea at the time, but hey, I am still flying so I am not complaining!). I exceed the mins for application, but still need to work on the rest of the qualifications. Completed the Class I flight physical a couple weeks ago, and scheduled the ATP written and check ride at the end of the month. Along with the FEX and MCI right afterwards.
One question, should I add the Radio Operator's license to the list of things to do also?
Anyways, nothing to add to this discussion except to say thanks for posting all the information, and helping those of us that are trying to get in a position to get hired!
Mahalo!

DoomedTX,
Congrats and good luck with retirement! I just finished up and was lucky enough to go to training while on terminal leave. A couple of suggestions:
- Apply early. I did it last year while deployed and included by return date and that I wasn't available until May 11. Got the call in Aug 10, interviewed in Sep, and class in May. The company is very military friendly!
- GET AN FAA CLASS 1 ASAP. Trust me, stuff can happen and you don't need the added stress of a delayed medical because of a backlog at a regional office.

Get your FCC Restricted Radio Operator's license.
Easy enough to get...
This thread is a few years old but info should be about on spot.

Whaledriver and SparKen, thanks for the response! Getting the license seems pretty straight forward.
Whaledriver, not a local, just fortunate enough to live in Hawaii for the majority of my military career. 12 years off and on living in Makakilo, Pearl and Kailua, and went to HPU for my first two years of undergrad. Right now with the 3000% humidity and heat in Florida, guess I am missing Hawaii and the trade winds.
Once again, thanks! Time for me to get the rest of my application stuff done this month, and submit and see what happens.

I concur with your assessment. If Atlas is really where you want to hang your hat then I strongly advise against doing the 737/ATP combo. Based on my own experience (rejection) and other mil folks I know with the self financed 737 type, it is obvious that it definitely does not help your cause.
This is unfortunate because doing the 737/ATP combo makes total sense for someone coming out of the military. GI Bill pays over half the tab and you get your ATP and become more competitive for SWA as a bonus.
Good luck and get home soon!

Hey WhaleD,
Are you living currently in HI?
I see there are a few HI cities listed as gateway now. That should be quite a bonus for you, eh?
Have you been able to pick up trips that start/end in HNL?
Just curious, I recently jumped in the pool, living in Hawaii Kai, extremely excited to get started...
