Crew force is stable since January vacancy bid at 1,002 total pilots, but we've hired 60 to keep up with retirements/attrition.
I called HR a week ago to check on my status in the pool. I was told there was a June 30th class that is filled. No other details about that but she said no classes scheduled beyond that as of now. Subject to change.

Still waiting since April 2013. No response from HR, either to phone calls or emails. What gives?

For those interested, I got extra passport pages in Shanghai today, pretty easy for the most part. I recommend visiting the consulate's web page first, checking out the instructions, making an appointment and doing the paperwork ahead of time.

To get there from the Sheraton, use the subway station in front of the hotel, ride the purple train (line 4) 3 stops to green (line 2) then 5 stops to west nanjing road. Exit the station on W Nanjing rd side, go out door, cross street turn left and go to # 1038 (west gate mall), take elevator to 8th floor, clear security (they hold your cell if u have 1). Go in office on left and take a # even if u have an appointment. When called turn in paperwork at window #2 or 3, pay at next window and wait about 25 minutes for your passport. Bring cash in case credit card machine is down (happened to me) the cost is $82, otherwise u can charge to the company card.

There is a June 30th 747 class, instructors in MIA are prepping for that and have even hinted at a July class (21?) aircraft unknown.

HR may be one of the last to know, they get word when it's time to call poolies and put them in a class, generally. Always a good idea to check with your recruiter (the one that gave you a phone screen or you talked to in prep for the 100 question test) and make sure they have everything they need to "process you" into a class (your paperwork and anything else) is in order. Helps jog their memories that you exist too

MIA is the source for all the good rumors and they are not slowing down, quite the opposite, lots of people getting trained to increase staffing in the training center. Some "suits" were getting a tour the other day too, always a good vibe when that happens

And with the 4 early release 767 pilots, the company did the right thing, lets hope they continue in that direction.

Am I the only one that thinks it's funny that they give potential clients a tour of that place? Might be the ugliest training center in existence.

Just wait until they actually get into class and realize that the training is far worse than the building looks!!!

Agreed. It would be really funny if they gave a tour on a day when it is raining outside. The tour group would have to swerve around the trash cans in the atrium that are set up to catch the rain water leaking from the ceiling....Classy!
