Or you could write a letter to your Congressman, I did and already got a relevant reply. Also consider stopping by a district office and share your concerns with a staffer.

I don't feel online petitions carry the same weight, but good for you for doing something!

 

Shortly after 9/11 when TSA was invented , there was a armed personnel at every security check point, problem was funding. It cost a lot of money to have someone at every single check point across America. Think about now many small airports have TSA check points .

I am not a fan of the TsA at all ! But honest question what is wrong with one being armed ? What's the big deal ? Besides money funding wasted .

Why are people against it . I have my own opinion on it but Curious to know peoples views on it .

 

remember back in the days where the federal government stuck to its "few and defined" powers? Where you're only interaction was with your local or at worse, state government. Where a small subset of voices or even a single voice could make a huge difference?

Do you REALLY think that a petition is going to make a difference?

 

I am definitely against it for numerous reasons, one being that the armed persons are not likely to be seasoned, experienced, law enforcement professionals; and even they screw up with disturbing frequency. Additionally, the TSA has demonstrated that they are not proficient at training anyone, much less a gun toting employee. I would have even less respect for them if they were armed. Leave the armed protection business to the Pros. In general, I feel much safer when I am packing or real law enforcement is present. We are never going to prevent the types of incidents such as the one at LAX last week; minimizing the potential damage likely, but preventing no... And yes, I am a gun owner.

 

Well said..and this is not an insensitive comment, but what about giving them bullet proof vests? An armed agent in LAX would not have prevented this...

 

1. Rank and file TSA don't need to be armed, they are screeners, not enforcers.

2. Arming them all, or even a significant fraction, would be incredibly costly because unlike FFDO's they wouldn't train for free at their own expense.

3. Once armed, they would immediately demand salaries on par with other federal LEO's. They already get lucrative pay, benefits, and union job security for what they do...no need to give them an excuse to demand even more.

4. There is a certain caliber of folks who can handle the sort of monotony thie job entails. Not that there's anything wrong with that, they have an important job that somebody needs to do. But that caliber, on average, is lower than your typical armed LEO. How many pax would have been hit at LAX if TSA had been shooting back? Bottom line, i don't think they (on average) are up to the task.

The system worked at LAX, professional LEO's took down the bad guy quickly.

 

Go and see the caliber of the TSA folks at any of the New York airports and you'll understand why. In EWR they now have two TSA agents stationed at every exit lane because apparently one wasn't enough when on multiple occasions people entered the sterile area through the exit lane. I feel like my tax dollars are being wasted every time I see two overweight tsa agents sitting on stools making sure nobody is walking the wrong way and knowing they are on government pay and benefits.

 

The TSA already has badges and viper teams.
The last thing we need is for them to issued firearms as they have already (way) overstepped their original mandate.
